Hey, This isnt audio related but i need some help from anyone who has general engine knowledge. Yesterday I took my explorer offroading. Well my dumbass underestimated the depth of a waterhole...it was about 4 truck lengths long..i got 1/4 of my nose out of the water hole..and boom. ****in thing shuts down on me..3/4 of the explere engulfed in water including the exhaust. so i fight to get the bastard started smoke and all....finally get it started and drive out. Well its definatly not driving well.at all. It died it 4WD Low so im not sure if that has anything to do with it? But whats going on is....at first i could go over 30mph with out it prety much chug-alugging and nearly dying. Now, after rotating in and out of 4wd to make sure that wasnt the problem...between 1,500-3,000 rpm , I can press the petal to the floor and noooo response other than the whole engine dying chugging noise. Theres also a slight burning smell coming from the engine bay. No smoke. just smell. Can annnyone please help me or know of anyone who can..**** im a dumbass haha. AIM me at MikeL1083 or leave a post.

if the car was immersed enough in the water for the intake's TIP to be completely submerged in water, you my friend, have hydrolocked your car. that means if youre intake (and most of the time it happens with cold-air intakes that start close to the ground) was submerged in water, it sucked that puddle up like a straw into your combustion chamber where your pistons tried to compress it but you cant compress water so it stopped everything dead in its tracks.. not good. not good at all. i've read about motors being destroyed from hydrolocking i suggest you consult a professional.

and here's something i found by googling "hydrolocking ford explorer":

97 F150,4.2V6,107k miles

I had Ford change my lower intake gaskets back in November,2002 to prevent the infamous hydro-lock.Ever since then my engine runs like a new one.If you can change the gaskets before any signs of coolant loss you will save the engine.

BTW,if you are looking to Ford for some help, good luck! Get in line with all the others who have bent over and had the blue oval broken off in there a**! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif

see, none of the engine was submerged it was more from the ****** back. the explorer was stick out at like 45 degree angle so the *** end is what was really down there. and its a 97 project f150....the water wasnt over the bottom lip of the front fender..it wasnt too deep..but for a stock explorer it was lol

well you went in nose first didnt you? wouldnt the initial dipping in of the nose first casue the suction to start? and when u got out the puddle it had finally sucked in enough water to lock up? i dont understand how your *** was submerged in the puddle but the nose wasnt.. if at any point the nose went into the puddle i would say its a good possibiolity thats what happened.. and u said it was an explorer first.. then u said it was a project f150.. im confused //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif OHH OK you were talking to project f150 ok ic ic so youre esxplorer is also lifted?

PS - theres a engine repair/performance section on the forum..

Yes i was talking to PROJECT F150 the member. Sorry. No its not lifted is stock. The entrance of the puddle was much less of an angle then the exit. my nose wasnt ever completely under...the water on the front barely came to the top of the front tires..**** my moms going to be pissed haha. That ford hydrolocking post you pulled up for me though is the exact year and engine size in my explorer. so its all the same. i also notice a Speedometer problem..until about 1,500 rpm the speedometer wont move.

tell your mom to start the car and when it doesnt starT give her a puzzled look and say, "WHAT DID YOU DOOoOoOO?"

BUT YEA I THINK YOU REALLY HYDROLOCKED YOUR CAR NOW THAT U MENTION ITS THE SAME YEAR AND ENGINE SIZE.. iunno where the lower intake gasket is at on your car but i bet the water came through that same way.. judging from its name (LOWER intake gasket) it must sit low to the ground.. low enough for that puddle to get sucked up HAHA sorry to break the news man.

rest of the electrical works fine right? If i'm not mistaken that truck has an individual coil for each cylendar?

You may want to pull the plug on the oil pan and see whats in there
