Help with DMM to set the gains

I changed out my HU to new Pioneer Avic-D3

so I decided to set my gains again to make sure it is at right place.. I bring out my DMM and I turn it on at AC voltage reading..

I turned the volume up 30/40 and from what I calculated, it should be receiving 63 volts (2k watts RMS at 2 ohm)

But I seem to be unable to get any reading on DMM.. I am positive that I did it right..

The pic of my DMM below.. I turned it to 2nd on the right from OFF.. is that correct?

If I am right, then why does it read 00.0 when I am playing at 1k hz -3db test tone at volume of 30/40 ?

If you hook up your speakers to the same terminals as the dmm do they play?

this happened to me too I went back and tried with a different dmm and it worked, don't know what the difference was

yes the car was running and test tone on at 30/40

I am having a feeling that my DMM is ****ed?

I don't know if this would make a difference, but use a 0db 50hz test tone, and make sure you set it on 200v

I doubt this would make a difference, but fine I ll do that later to see if it works..

Also why 0db? I was thinking about -3db to get more out of the subs..

you are not going to get more out of the subs if you use a -3db tone......you will push the amp into clipping if you ever hit a 0db tone with the volume at 30

it is recommended to set gains with a 0db tone. however when I set mine, I use music because I do not play tones on my equipment

I used "white girl" to set mine this last time as it has nice sustained notes, and seems to be the closest to 0db in music from my experiences(loudest bass notes) which means that all other music will not over stress my amp or subs.

I see alright no problem..

I ll go out and see if my DMM works this time with the 50hz test tone..

Problem solved.. it worked perfectly with 50hz test tone..

so I am assuming 1000hz isnt the right tone for sub amp?

Nah you really shouldn't play anything over 100 in your woofer I only play 80.

Can't blieve no one told you about the 1khz tone.

That's for speakers not drivers
