Help with deck install problem: sound too loud?

Hi, i am installing an Alpine CDA-9830 into a 1991 acura legend.

all the remaining items are stock including stock bose speakers.

after hooking up the deck, i started tyo play the radio. With the volume at 1 it was quite loud, with the volume at 2 (on the deck) it was almost twice as loud, and when I turned the volume to 3 it was super loud. Now, i know my deck goes way higher than 3, so why is the sound sooo loud?

Note it also has poor sound quality.

Any ideas of what may cause this?

thank you kindly,

Might want to check the impedance of the stock speakers also. I dont know much about the bose stuff but with my Mustang I have used the stock amp with an aftermarket head unit with no problems but all factory systems are different. You should be able to run wires from the deck to speakers but check impedance first, the aftermarket deck might not like the load.

there is factory amp in your car you need to by pass i had to do that to mine the sell a harness u hook up to the factory harness then plugs into the other side . it bypasses the factory amp:).

You'll need to replace the speakers if you want the head unit to run without the factory amp. the bose speakers are almost always 2 ohm or 1 ohm speakers, so if the head unit runs those speakers directly, then you will eventually burn up the built in amp in the radio.

I've never tried it on the older acuras, but on the newer hondas like the element and the civic i've wired up the speaker wires on the aftermarket harness to RCA's so that the RCA outputs on the aftermarket radio run a lower level signal into the factory amp. That may work without having to replace all the speaker, but like I said I couldn't be positive as I haven't tried it on an older acura.

The best way to get it to work would still be to replace all the speakers and have the factory amp taken out of line and the aftermarket radio directly run the speakers. The speakers are probably needing to be replaced anyway if they are still factory paper from 1991 anyway If its too much for you, then you may want to take it to a professional.
