HELP with charging a digital capacitor for the first time

Hello, I am trying to finish the install on my stereo tonight and this is my first time using a capacitor. I have a Power Accoustik 2 farad digital power capacitor. I am having difficulty charging it correctly.

I put the resistor that came with the capacitor into the fuse holder (for the power cable). The instructions say that the read out on the capacitor should start flashing a single dot, and will then display the voltage read out when done charging. So I did this and the display shows nothing at al.

I then took out the resistor and put in the fuse. The read out showed the voltage for the car, but no flashing dot to indicate charging first. I haven't tried to play the stereo or anything, because I don't think that the capacitor has been charged. If it wasent charged when you hooked up the power wire it would have made a huge spark.

O.K. so then it's ok to hook up the power wire to the amp. and start working and tuning the stereo? Thanks
