Help with box design for 6_8in speaker

Please Help...Basically I have a speaker/subwoofer with a 6in cone diameter and an overall diameter of 8in....the watt of the speaker is 60 to 80w (8ohms).....now I have a few problems....I was gonna just make a sealed box around .7cu.ft. 3:4:5 ratio(not sure about ratio thing) and put some damping in it and leave it at that...but I read that a sealed box needs a powerful speaker and mine is not(i also dont have an amp im just running it off the car stereo hoping it gives it enough juice)...so i thought a ported/vented box would be better but Im very poor at math and dont know where to place the port or what size volume or other things are.....can someone spell it out for me or point me to plans of a ported box that would suit the woofer speaker or just help...i would like this to work out but I do need some help...thanks lads...and lassies..

i like the L port idea ..easier to build i think...but the website wants me to enter the width and length etc...im not sure what i need...something to suit the 8in speaker...u know?internal vol and all that..can i just say my speaker size and let it do the calculations....any ideas..

It all depends on the frequency range of the speaker. Wouldn't make much sense to build a box tuned to a frequency that the speaker can't reach. As this is a SPEAKER, not a SUBWOOFER, most ported box plans will be tuned to a low frequency that your speaker can't reach. Have you considered an "open-air" installation?

The speaker was taken from a old surround sound system...from the woofer box..if u know what i mean...the only thing i know about it was that the bass was great out of it when it was a surround sound thing....all it says on the speaker is 60w-80w and 8ohms...i just want to stick it in a box that will give reasonably good bass for the car...pref with a port coz it doesnt have enough power for sealed box i think (i like the L port..easy for me to build) but i have no idea of the required measurements of an Lport box ....im not up on the frequency and stuff...just lookin for some good design that would suit a 6in cone and overall 8in diameter....lads thanks for the replys i apreciate it...

OK....so...what would you suggest?

Maybe just a sealed enclosure?...and forget the port? If u do think this is best are my measurements correct?...(in my first post) ...thanks again...

I would go smaller than that, closer to .4 or .5

Or even leave it in the surround-sound box, just remove the internal amp (if there is one) and run leads to the speaker terminals.

Just understand that this speaker is NOT going to give you any respectable bass when installed in a car.

Thanks alot Armcclure and the rest....I took your advice....i had already made a .7cubic ft box and it didnt sound good just like a normal speaker but then i saw your post about having it at about .4 or .5 foot cubed so i cut it down to .45 cubic feet internal volume and it sounds great...just what i was lookin for...not a super boom boom but a good boom boom.....

Thanks alot....
