Help with box build in Mustang trunk. Posted in Box section, but really slow...

OK I'm going with either a 10/12" RE SE or a 10/12" OZ Audio ME. Both need about .75-1ft^3 sealed. If I went sealed, I think I could fit it behind my shock tower, which is what I want. Dimensions for 1ft^3 would be 14x20x10 with 3/4" MDF (that's if I could fit a rectangular box in, but with the seat angle these aren't accurate dimensions). This would work with either one, but I would rather do a ported box. Not sure if I can fit one in this space. Here are some pics:

Problem is, the trunk narrows at the sides. You can see the point with the most depth from the rear seat is the very center, right where the edge of the current amp sits.

I would theoretically like to build an amp rack for my US Amps AX 5600 and put it off to one side and the sub on the other. If I won't be able to fit either of these subs, I may do a pair of 8s. OR...I'm thinking I can mount an enclosure off to the side in the right corner, where my current toolbox is here:

Only thing with this (even though it give me WAY more options for sub size and enclosure size), is that I like everything to be flushed in. I would want to make a beauty panel to cover the box and the rest of the space behind it. Then make an amp rack for the amp, where the current one is, on a false floor that is only the height of the rear brace. Then mount the amp right in the middle, wires all hidden. I know this is a HELL of a long post. So thanks for looking and advice if given.

My new amp btw, I'm sure everyone has seen it/one before though. US Amps AX 5600:

Also, I'm going to sand down the rough edges on the endcaps of the 5600. What color do you think I should paint them? Silver again? Flat black?

Well, not yet. But it's a start. I was really surprised how well this rear brace made the car handle. It used to understeer a LOT before. It completely made the car 100% more neutral. It rotates so much nicer. Suspension mods so far: Eibach Pro-kit and camber bolts, take-off Bullitt F/R sway-bars, KYB AGX S/S, Kenny Brown STB/RSTB and subframe connectors with cross-bars. I am 99% sure I pull over 1g on sharp turns. But I sold my old system just to use this brace, so it's staying. My amp puts out 500x1 @1ohm so I'm looking at the RE SEs, OZ ME, ID Q, RL-i. Or a pair of 8" versions of these subs (where available).

I have the same car! hehe. Really, I noticed understeer too, thought it was bad front tires hmmm.

I think 8's are an awesome idea! I just got an 8w3v2 that I'm gonna use for home audio that I'm bumpin in the car until my new 12" comes in. Very impressed for such a shitty temp enclosure. 3 or 4 decent 8's ported or sealed would probably sound killer.

That would solve your space problem too!

Oh hey, you probably noticed the hump. The hump on the trunk floor where your amp is. Do you know what that's for? Or what's under it?

I want to bang it flat soooooo bad for my box but kind of afraid. It's gotta be there for a reason.

Actually, the center of the brace is bolted right on the hump. My old box was fine. The padding under the mat pretty much smooths it out. Maybe yours is worse? I'm pretty sure that is where the bumpstop for the rear axle is mounted. I am limited in the options for 8s because I want to use my new amp to its full potential (500x1 @ 1ohm). And I don't think 1 8 will have enough output for me. I'm thinking I will make the biggest box I can fit for 1 10 behind the brace, then mount the amp on a false floor in front of the brace.

I say you have 3 options here:

1) Go with a box behind your rear strut bar - probably a couple of 8's or a 10

2) Glass an enclosure or two in the side of the trunk - you could do 10's or 12's

3) Hack up the rear deck and squeeze two 8's there are either build an enclosure into the rear deck or go IB.

I would go Option 1 or 2 if I was you. Option 1 would by far be the easiest, and if you want to go ported you could always do internal/external or external ports to get the correct port area, length and tuning without sacrificing a lot of your internal airspace.

Check out this box - he has a part internal / part external port.

Cool, thanks for the link. I think I have decided...probably something similar to that tC, but with port and sub firing back. I'm thinking I will just build the biggest box I can the entire width of the trunk behind the brace, then mount the amp in front of the brace on a small false floor/platform (centered with the sub centered too). Now I need to see how big of a box I can do and have someone design me one.

Make sure that whatever design you go with you have enough clearance for the sub (i.e the surround ~ xmax) in relation with the rear strut brace.

Yeah, the sub will most likely be mounted above the brace in the box so no problems there. I'm thinking 1 12" RE SE. I'm also thinking, maybe have the box actually extend above the brace so it is kinda stepped (I need to photoshop something, as I don't have Solidworks or CAD on my comp), this way I can have more mounting depth and space for the port. Then I'm thinking a beauty panel to flush it all in in front of the brace, with a plexi window so the brace is visible, then mount a couple of neon strips on the other side of the brace so it glows. Not sure about that last part though, as I've never been a fan of neon and I don't show my car, but it would be kinda cool to turn it on every now and then...

Sounds like a pretty good idea, now you just have to do it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
