Help with audio from radio

Hi, I have a stock radio (I know, I really need to get an after market one, but for now im stuck with this so im going to try and get this to work). I have my kicker amp hooked in to the radio and i have a 12' sub. I had to use an RCA to speaker wire converter because my radio doesnt have RCA on the back. To install, I had to get into the 6x9 Audio stream, and splice the wire and make a Y adapter and hook it into the converter and then to my amp. This all works fine, except for when I turn on my car. When I turn it on the radio will not give ANY sound to any speakers AT ALL. I have to disconnect one of the wires from the splice and plug it back in for it to work.

BTW I have a 99' Cavalier. Thanks for any help guys!
