Help With Aero Ports Please

alright guys. so im pretty pissed right now. finally finished the box, went to go pick up my subs, and got my 4 inch aero ports, carpet , and speaker wire in. well i didnt think the 4 inch aero ports would be 7 1/4 " in diameter so now im having problems with where im going to mount them. so i have a few questions i need answered and id really appreciate it if someone helped me out with this.

1. the psp's site says this "Determine proper speaker & port placement before cutting any holes. The Precision Port™ should be placed at least one port diameter away from any inside walls, if possible. " well i think about the only place i can put it is facing the same way my subs are facing. what does it mean by one port diameter away? how far is that? i have about 2-3 inches away from my seats for the ports. will this sound any different if i had it mounted on top?

2. psp's port calculator says i need 8 inches of port required. does that mean 8 inches of pipe plus the flares or 8 inches from flare end to flare end?

3. what would you do if you were in my situation. please help. i want this in by tomorrow.

should i do eight 2 inch aeros? would that take up more airspace than these 2 4 inch ports? the port area on two 4 inch aeros and eight 2 inch aeros are the same.

They have the same surface area but its easier to go with 2 4"s and i dont design based on what PSP says so i dont have a clue what that means.

trust me i know itd be easier to go with two 4's considering they are sitting in my room right now but i dont think you read what i said.i cant fit them. they are 7 1/4" wide. the question was can i have them firing into my seat with like 3 inches of clearance? and can how much room should i leave for the port on the inside wall of the box? since it will be at an angle can i just put it up against the back wall?

It'd probably be better if you had a little more clearance (4" at least) between the ports and the seats. If you cant mount them on top or on the side maybe look at putting them on the front face between the seats. You may have to use 90's inside the box to have adequate port clearance inside.

IIRC, each flare gives you 1.5" of port legnth, so the straight pipe would need to be 5" to get 8" total. If you have to use 90's, measure the centerline of the 90 and subtract that from the straight pipe.

thanks a lot man. that helped out a lot. where can i get the 90's you speak of? and what do you think about if i did 8 two inch aero ports on the top? 4 on on each side and then the two subs in the middle. i think itd be pretty badass.

I was mistaken. Just checked the PSP site, the flares account for 5", so the straight pipe would need to be 3".

You can get PVC 90's from HD or Lowe's or any hardware store that carries plumbing supplies. You'd be better with the sewer pipe fittings as schedule 40 water line fittings have a bigger I.D. They may not be a tight fit, so you may need to wrap the pipe to increase the O.D. for a snug fitment.

Another option is to use regular 4" PVC thin wall sewer pipe and use a router to put a roundover on the MDF. You can make some port baffles and round them over for the inside. Next best option if you don't want a slot port.

ok thanks a lot for the quick replies. i think im gonna do eight 2 inch aero ports just because that way i will have enough room for the ports to breath and i wont have to ghetto rig anything.

anyone know the diameter of the outside flare of the 2 inch ports? and can i order the parts from psp directly because parts express doesnt have everything i need. or another site that carries them? this is what i need

16- connection rings

8- inside flares

8- outside flare

3- 2x7 plastic tubes

and why would i be more prone to port noise? its just as much port area as two 4 inch aeros.

Yeah, I know it's the same port area and you may not have a problem. I've never used multiple ports so I can't speak from experience, just trying to speculate whether the multiple ports side by side would create turbulence between them. IDK for sure.

wait are you 100% sure about that? if so i may just stick with the 4 inch aeros
