I am looking for some speakers to replace my blown MBQ reference. I am going to run active through my 880 prs. I have listened to some comps at local shops and read everything here, but still have to ask the dumb question, what comps should I get? I am running a jl 300/4 to them. Should I buy a comp set with crossovers I wont need, or build my own, something I know little about. It should be cheaper without needing passive crossovers.? I am looking at something that will sound better than my MBQ reference. I can only listen to limited comp sets, and most that are discussed on the net I cant audition. I liked the polk momo's I heard, so I think I like a more subdued speaker with alot of midbass. I have 2 Jl 10w1 with a 500/1 for a substage. I want to spend around $300-$400. TIA, Chuck

gah, if only you had the JL 450/4 for running active., thats an awsome amp for active.

id not get a comp set to run active. but piece together a mid/tweet combo. so you know the tweet can play the frequency you want, same with the mid.

Actually I have a 300/4 for my mids and a alpine 40x4 for my tweets. I could bridge these 2 amps and delete my rear MBQ reference. I run the rears off HU power, but I dont think you can do that with an 880 when in active mode? Or can you? Thanks for thr link to more info. Chuck

I know about no rears, but this is in a crewcab truck and the subs are behind the rear seat. If your in the back its nothing but bass. Most people say screw them, but its my family. Some sound out back is ok. I dont let it mess with my frontstage too much.

You got some really nice options at that price.

You can go the DIY route and put together some very very nice comps. People have thrown out some options for that. I will give you few out of the box options and other brands that fit into your price range. You already have the 880 so you have what you need as far as x-over, T/A, Eq to do a nice active set-up.

Where can I get a price on the seas? Ive heard them mentioned many times. I did get a price on some rainbow germs, but they were a little out of my price range.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Yeah man, check out the Seas W18NX at madisound or the Seas Lotus mids at mobilesq. Send the guys at mobilesq an e-mail for the real price on the Lotus mids. They'll sell them quite a bit cheaper than the advertised price.

Im having trouble with the seas dealers. The w18nx is a 7'' woofer, I need a 6.5, and I dont know what tweet to get. The other site 's e-mail link doesnt bring me anywhere, maybe an omen?
