Help with 98 Integra GS

I want to upgrade the speakers in my 98 Integra GS, and I was about to buy Polk db6500 when I came here to get a review. After reading articles and posts for a few days, I'm overwhelmed with options now. I already installed an Alpine 9856 HU with the iPod fast connection, and I already had a used Infinity Basslink (good enough for me). I listen to mostly hard rock and some rap (everything but country really). I prefer to not have "harsh" tweeters. I'm looking for SQ (stock speakers have virtually zero midbass) at all volumes. I don't turn the volume up too much (the Alpine powering the stock speakers can get loud enough, it just sounds like crap).

So, I'm asking you: How would you spend up to $600 to improve my sound? Which comps in front, amp, anything in rear(?), deadening, etc. If you have actually installed a system in a 3rd generation Integra that would meet my needs, that would be fantastic. I can't really compare these brands that I didn't know about until recently, because Best Buy is the only place nearby.

I hope I have given you enough info to go on, and I look forward to hearing what you have to say! Thanks!

focal has some nice options for speakers, as does boston acoustics, idk if that'll go out of your 600 dollar price range just for comps though, really the best advice i can give you, is find some local audio shops that carry higher end equipment, go there, listen to some of their display models, make your decision, then shop around either at other stores or online(best bet online) to find the lowest price on that product.

If you don't like harsh tweeters, stay away from the Polks. They have a tendency to be kinda harsh to the ear even though they are silk. I would go with Rainbow SLC's for near that price too.

I've been trying to research the Rainbow SLCs, but information is hard to find for them. Do you know if it would be an easy install in an Integra? Also, can I get a recommendation for an amp to go with them (looking for bang for buck). Thanks for your help!

I found an article at team-integra.net about building a spacer to gain more mounting depth. So that shouldn't be bad. On the other hand, the oem tweeter is 3/4 " but a 1" tweeter can be made to fit. From what I've been able to find , the SLC tweeters are at least 1.3" (not sure which spec is the one to compare to). I really don't want to cut new tweeter holes, but I'm hoping that I'm just an idiot and the Rainbow tweets will fit. Anyone know?

Thanks again!

EDIT: Hmm, I found another site saying the tweeters for SLC line is only 20mm (3/4"). Should I just send the Rainbow dealer on this forum a PM?
