Hi I have a 2004 pontiac grand prix gt, with stock speakers. i just bought a pair of db polkaudio 6x9's, but i have no idea how to remove the stock 6x9's. I see where you remove the speaker on the bottom from the trunk, but i don't know how to get the top cage off. it seems attached to the carpet. any help will be much appreciated.

I had to buy instructions of some site, google 2004 pontiac grand prix gt speaker install etc, stuff like that. Or just spend an afternoon carefully removing the back seat. For my 96 camry, I had to remove the entire back seat. Took 6 hours the first time, by the 3rd, took me 2 minutes.

you have to remove the back seat c pillars and rear deck cover, good luck //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I thank they come out through the top not out the bottom into the trunk right?

I know I had a 03 honda civic and it was a pain to take the back dash off actually

is was impossible with out breaking anything. Anyway what I did to take mine out

was, I got some tin shears and went to town on the old speakers from in side the

trunk and be careful not to damage the mounting hole. When they finely came out the

factory screw holes lined up and I was able to mount the speakers from inside the trunk.

That way if you ever have any problems with the new speakers you can take them out

easily. And a far as the old speakers go I couldn't see why you would want to save them.

yeah they don't come out from the bottom, there are screws that mount it from the top. I'll try again today, hopefully it won't take too long. It's 40 degrees here in michigan haha.

I hate MI weather //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif. it sucks doing rear decks on a grand am but i miss my 95 GT //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

with 6x9s [by-nines or 54"s (6x9=54)] You have to watch out if you have a subwoofer. The Violent Bass Air (VBA) from the sub can cause major damage.

yea it's a definite removal from the top side, the rear deck piece comes out. Fold down the back seat and there may be bolts that hold it in place. or plastic covers over where the bolts are. i've also seen on older cars where there ARE screws underneath that actually hold the speaker grills on, and by removing those first, u can do in and remove the top cover to get to the screws that hold the speaker in place. can't remember for sure on that make of car off the top of my head...

this might help:
