Help wiring matrix pro and setting gains...

Hoping someone can chime in... I'm going to use the matrix pro to take the signal pre amp and would like to know if I need to run separate power and ground wires for it and if so, what gauge should I use? Also, after I have everything installed, how do I go about setting the gain on the line drive and the amp properly??

who makes the "matrix pro"?

start by referencing the owner's manual. i would link you to that first thing.

the purpose of the line driver is to increase the signal voltage to the maximum input level the amp can accept. you have a third gain source in the signal chain now, setting this properly is best done with trained ears and an oscilloscope. you want to maximize signal to noise ratio.

Audio control makes the matrix pro, its a 6 ch line driver. Will be using it to boost the signal from the factory HU from what I hear is around 1v. I know how to set the gain when just hooking up an amp, its the gain on the line driver before the amp that is throwing me off.. Can I set it with a DMM and a 1khz test tone like I would an amp?

What amps? The trick will be setting the line driver to give an input signal that is strong but within each amps input range, then amp gains will low. A DMM won't be as useful here, unless you had a way to meter the output of the Matrix while under load to know where that is.

Line drivers and amp gains are best set by trained ear and/or scope.

Just one amp, ZED draconia II. Will be powering comps off fronts and a sub off rears so I would need to set the gains separately for front and rear channels. Input range on this amp is 8v-0.25v.

given the HU is around 1V, the AudioControl can do about 8V and the amp can accept 8V, you want gain as soon as you can get it.

you can probably run the line driver gain about 60-70% and the amp gain about 20-30%, depending on your use of the head unit volume. that's assuming you'd get to around 6V or so into the Zed. that is where i would start. then i'd play Autosound 2000 Disc 102 test tones to listen for clipping and adjust from there.
