so i should cut that wire in half, and ground it to the OTHER side of the suspension instead?

Yes, the stock 4ga is more than able to allow flow of the 80amps max, that his stock alt is generating. Sure you could say adding another wire there would create less resistance. But in reality you wouldn't be gaining much until the HO is added, where there would then be a advantage to add more wire to make up for the added amps the HO would be generating.

Simply common sense.
