Hi everyone. I have some Alpine Type X 6.5's (SPX-17REF), and I had been mounting the tweeters in the swivel-mount cups, which means I installed the swivel-mount rings that snap around the tweeters. However, I've decided I want to install the tweeters coaxially with the woofers to see how they sound - that means I have to take the swivel-mount rings off of the tweeters, because the tweeter bridge is held on by the swivel ring.
Here's where my problem comes in - I can't get the stupid swivel-mount rings off of the tweeters! I called Alpine, and all they said was "Well, they might be hard to get off, but they should come off". Any advice on how to get these off? They're held on by a sawtooth-pattern on the inside of the rings, like this:
I've tried just pulling the ring off, and that doesn't work. I've also tried wedging a flathead screwdriver in between the tweeter and ring, with no luck. I'm almost to the point where I want to cut the rings off and have Alpine send me a new pair of rings. Does anyone have any advice on how to get these stupid things off? Thanks!
