ok first off im pretty much a car audio noob but I have a major problem ( well i hope its not major ). anyway I recently had a pioneer premier 3002spl and a mtx 81000d installed in my car. today I was driving and had the sub turned up pretty loud and after a few minutes i look back and there is smoke coming from my truck..i had the back seats down so I could see in. I couldnt tell if the smoke was coming from the amp or the sub ( the amp is on the back of the box ). SO i turn it off and pull over, disconnect the fuse, and inspect the amp and sub. I couldnt tell where the smoke was coming from, the amp was warm but not hot. when i first looked back at the amp when i was driving it sort of looked like the smoke could have been coming from where the power and ground lines hook in. so i then reconnect the fuse and see if the sub will play and I could not get the sub to work. I dont know if maybe it overheated and needed to cool down before it can play or what happened. I hope this is not to serious. Please any help would be appreciated.

Ahh carolina fan.. if you were a Duke fan i'd help ya out but.....

lol

did you take the sub out and make sure it was ok? but yeah smoke is never a good sign

state is a very good school. what are you going for.

If you have a dmm check the vc's to make sure you havent fried them. also push on the cone lightly and see if you hear a grinding. also check all of your fuses. if its none of those you might have blown some mosfets in your amp

i took the sub out and that is where the smell and i guess the smoke to was coming from...the center part doesnt seem to push down as far as it used to and i guess you could say it makes a small noise when i push it down..how would i know if the voice coils are fried..oh and im doing either nuclear or aerospace engineering but im jus learning about car audio

man how sad. How could you smoke a premier 3000? Ive wanged these subs really hard for long periods with no stank whatsoever. You should recheck your gains and buy another premier

btw- smoke, plus stink, plus grinding noises, plus no output= Blown sub, like i said recheck the settings on your amp and get another sub, good thing they are only about a hundred a peice.

thanks for helping me out nick...for everyone else i just talked to keffersracing on the phone hes the one that installed it for me..after he installed it i needed a bigger fuse so i took it to a local audio specialty place and got a bigger use and they tunned everything on the headunit and the amp and it looks like they had the gained, eq, and freq turned up to high and thats why it blew...so now i gotta try and talk to them and see what can be done..the only thing is they tuned it for free...does anyone think i can get them to replace it since they tuned it to high or is it my fault since i control the volume

just to clear everything up, i didnt move the amp the dumbasses at the car audio store i had adjust my headunit moved it, i told them i needed them to set up my headunit to work and they decided to tune my amp as well, im going there tommorrow and trying to talk with them, hopefully they will own up to messing up my system!
