Help setting the filters and settings on my deck and amp(s)

Hi I'm new to the forums and was hoping for some advice/suggestions from the car audio experts here. So I recently purchased a Cadillac Deville DHS and very quickly I ended up blowing my stock bose subwoofer it came with. So I ended up completely tearing out all my stock audio and putting in brand new stuff.

So this is my new setup...

I have a SONY WX-900BT double din deck for my head unit, it's not the greatest, the EQ is an absolute let down. But it's decent.

For the rear doors I have

Pioneer TS-A1376R A-Series 5.25" 300Watt 3-way speakers

For the front doors I have

Pioneer TS-D1330C D-Series 5-1/4" 180 Watts Max Power 2-way component package speakers

Pioneer GM-D8604 Class FD 4-Channel Bridgeable Amplifier 1200 watt (max power) is what powers my speakers

Now for my BASS I have 2 ROCKFORD FOSGATE P3D4 12" Subs in a ported enclosure in my trunk

Whats powering those subs is a Pioneer Gm8601 1,600 watt amp power (I know they are only getting maybe half as much power as they can handle, but trust me my car still shakes like crazy with this amp)

I was wondering if you experts could tell me what I should have my LPF/HPF settings on the deck and each of the amps.

Thanks in advance ;P

man u were doing good with pioneer then had to switch up on the subs.. that amp do ok probably need amp with ss filter (that one don't., look into amp like mine in sig $149 or rf 1200) on that ported box no telling how high it's tuned i guess 42hz or so.. set speakers hp over on hu (if it has it) to 120hz see how that sounds (with subs off) if u still hear distortion turn it up more.. lowpass on sub most peeps set at 80-120hz if u listen to a lot of rock u can set it to 150hz (which i did cause thats where my hp is set for speakers) if amp has off or full range or pass through on xover over then set to that use xover on hu if u just have lp xover on (no off) then just use it on amp don't use lp on hu + amp same with mids 1 xover per speaker or sub..

The hpf filter should be set to what the box is tuned to, and if you don know I can suggest a method but it's pretty hard to write it all down. You can just put a 35hz test tone and go up on the sub sonic or hfp filter until it start fading out that frequency and back it up.

And each box has its own curve so the higher frequency will not be audible. You can do the same for the lpf filter at 60hz with a test tone. I suggest turn off bass boost, loud or any other bs option on the head unit off and keep it off. Sub level to 0 then on the amp don't touch bass boost just set the gain after your happy with your cross over setting

I mainly listen to a lot of rap with lots of "heavy" bass. Heres a picture of how my amps are currently setup, my friend set them up for me

. While the HPF and LPF on my head unit are both set at 80. The slopes are both "1" you can only set it 1-3 so I just left it at 1..

So I should just set the settings on my 4channel amp to off? Sorry I'm clueless about this stuff haha

(not sure what u mean by both lp on hu, it has 2) the slopes are probably 12 18 24db if it sounds good it's fine on either one.. if u have hp xover on hu turn hp over off on amp, set it to 100-150hz on hu listen to speakers with sub off to adjust to lowest u can go without distortion, if u set hp at say 120hz then u can set lp on subs to 120 to still get those freqs up to 120 from subs

So I burned out my Pioneer monoblock 1600 watt amp for my subs real fast, today I picked up a Hifonics Zeus 2000 watt bridgeable but that's too much for my rockfords to handle so I got em wired at 2 ohms getting a solid 500ish rms each. But I have a question, is there a reason why my subs would be hitting bass notes differently with this amp? I was only getting 350watts to each of my subs before and this one is giving them over 500 but it seems quieter for some notes and some of them it isn't hitting at all! [emoji36] I don't understand, anyone have any ideas why that would be happening?

EDIT: also I do have the "BASS EQ" setting on the hifonics 4channel amp set at 0, and the "woofer level" at 0 on the deck Should I be using either of these? People always told me not to use them.. Atm I got the gain set a little under 3/4 and the LPF at 80 and it's not driving these subs as hard as the pioneer amp was. Is Hifonics just not as good? I'm a bit disappointed

u bought that without asking us huh? is it a 4 channel u running to subs? see what happens, i mean it maybe it has some power but u would have to run it full 1 ohm to get 1k out of man.. u shoulda bought amp like mine u would been happy.. so your subs are wired to 1 terminal on box at 2 ohm? and u have amp connected how?

I didn't go out and buy it myself, my pioneer burned out last night, first the bass remote went on it and then 20 mins later the amp just fried. My friend had an unopened hifonics zeus 4 CHANNEL ZXX20004 amp that was unopened never used that he sold me for a 100. He showed me the receipt he paid 180..box was still sealed and everything. I know its not like its used or something and he ripped me off..but yeah idk he hooked it up and he said its running 500-600 watts to each sub the way he wired it for me. He tried crossing them and giving them the full power from the amp but even at half gain the subs only played for like 10 minutes then shut off, they are Rockford Fosgate p3d4's rated 1200 for MAX but apparently can't even handle 1,000. Anyways bottom line is the PIONEER was only giving the subs 350 rms at MOST each. This 2000watt 4 channel is giving them 500 watts and it's still quieter and some notes my subs won't hit now, it's frustrating me quite a bit at this point.

This is my old amp

And heres the one I got now

Even just running the subs normal at 1ohm for 500watts each not even crossing them for the full 1,000 they should still be hitting harder than with the pioneer right?

the pioneer is a little over 800rms.. that hifonics is probably about 200 x4 at best at 2 ohm (so if u could run all it's power to subs u may get te same power u had with other amp but unless those subs are 4ohm dvc and u bridged 2 channels to each sub at 4 ohm u won't get same power u had from other amp, my guess is u getting 200rms per sub.. i still ain't sure how u have it wired., but #1 u shoulda stayed with a mono amp and the subs have nothing to do with amp shutting off u have gain to high and probably trying to run it at 2 ohm bridged load that amp shut off., don't blame subs because u got wrong amp and hooked it up wrong.... gain should never be more that 1/2 and if u have hu with 4-5v preamps out puts gain should be at about 25%.. the hifonics is probably 100 x 4 run it to your speakers and get a sub amp like mine $149 ebay 930 rms @2 ohm 1160 @1 ohm........

if box has 2 speaker terminals and he wired 1 channel per terminal it's 2 ohm stereo which is fine but at beat u getting 250 rms per sub and not using other 2 channels at all (so u thought u getting 2k amp when at best it's a 1k amp but u only using 1/2 of it) where as they got a little over 400 rms per sub on pioneer that was actually a good amp., and i bet it fried cause u had gain set to high on it too.. this is when u learn difference between rms power and peak or max power., hifonics list peek power which means nothing, it' like saying my car will do 280 mph but really it's on 140, called lying.. u needed amp just like mine or a mono amp with 1200-1500 RMS at 1 ohm and set gain at 25% u woulda been good..

Oh believe me I completely agree with you on the amp, sticking with pioneer etc. This was just a temporary fix. There aren't many car audio shops near me, and I don't like driving around without bass so this was just a temporary fix. I'm getting a new sub amp soon and will use this hifonics for my door speakers. BUT lets go back to this amp in th meantime. To answer your questions, the p3d4 12's are 4 ohm DVC wired to produce a 1 ohm load to the amp (just got off the phone with my car audio guys, I asked them so I could answer your questions) so yeah they are definitely DVC. The p3d4 say they perform best around 600 RMS and their peak power is 1200 RMS. But when I was running them bridged they wouldn't play. They would play and sound great and I mean great, but only for about 10-20 minutes then once I put the volume past 30 they just turn off until I restart my car. The amp stays on and the subs just wont play when running them bridged. Is Fosgate known to list their stuff as overpowered? What would be the reason the subs keep turning off when running them full power? Amp stays on so cant be amp?

And as for how strong my head unit is, and what my gain should be at. I'm not sure how to tell. This is what it says under specs on my deck

"OUTPUT POWER (4 OHM, 1 KHZ, 16 V)

55 W"

they wouldn't play because u don't understand how ohm loads work., ech sub is 4ohm dvc which means it can be wired either 2 or 8 ohms each so wired to 2 ohm bridging 2 channels to that sub is 2 ohm bridged load = to a 1 ohm load that amp can't do that... and amp shuts off what idk is y u trying to blame the subs cause u got wrong amp.. read what said a few times STOP BLAMING SUBS u have to get amp based subs ohm load u are wiring it to wrong amp wrong way...... amp is protecting itself because u don't know what u are doing... only thingu can do is stop trying to bridge it.. if box has 2 terminals run 1 channel to each terminal thats 2 ohm stereo.. if it has 1 terminal u will have remove subs re wire them to 8 ohm each then u can bridge 2 channels of that amp to them but again even if u do it right u only gonna get 250 per sub at best.... dude give up trying to use that amp u just gonna burn up another amp stop doing things wrong and blaming equipment.. when u redy to get correct amp come back and i'll help u.. like i said my amp is about best u can get under $200 that actually does 1160rms at 1 ohm (it's been tested) they $149 on ebay.. and turn gain down u aren't supposed to turn gain higher to make subs louder cause amp don't have enough power it don't work and again thats how u fried last amp..

Haha alright I understand, you keep talking about getting the amp you got, but I don't see a link. I'm using the tapatalk app or whatever for this forum and it doesn't show signatures. What amp should I pick up? Whats it called? Thanks in advance

other option not as good of amp but pecision power black ice 2600 is 1300rms they say., 1 guy here has 1 he got used in a trade he's running 2 sundown E 15's with it, he says it shakes ground around his suv so must not be to bad.. they are like $131.. either of these amp are stronger than amps u have had so u need at least 4 ga wire and may, have some head lite dimming at night., they both have sub volume remotes so set gain about 35% and use remote turn turn up and down., if lites dim turn it down until u get big 3 wires done under hood (if u ever do that) if u ever need a new battery get a agm batt (advance is fine what i have) that my help but ususally if u having dimming big 3 wires only thing to fix it (search big 3 upgrade on google) and read alot of theads here u will learn.. u just gotta slow down and don't buy 1st thing that comes your way everything don't work well together...
