on HU:

LOUD - turned off

BASS level - at ZERO

EQ - FLAT

Volume - set at 40/62 (I barely turn pass 35)

on AMP:

Bass Boost - OFF

Input voltage - Middle (.2v to 2v) (There's three settings, low is like .02 to .2v, middle is .2 to 2v and high is 2 to 8 volts, book recommends setting to middle if your hu output is 4 or 5 or lower)

--------------------------------

According to the math, i should be looking for a voltage of about 54v for a 1500rms at 2 ohms with my 2 rsd 12's (single 4's)...

i'm playing a -3db 50hz test tone and the most voltage i can get turning the gain all the way up on the amp is like 23 volts...

what am i doing wrong?

Try a 0db only and get back
i'll have to try that...people have told me to do -3db since most must isn't recorded at 0db or something like that...

my amp is also kinda weird in that it puts out 800rms at 4 ohms, but suppose to do 1500rms at 2 AND 1 ohm, so i'm wondering if i only need to set it to 38volts (sqrt(1500*1))...

its the new clarion dpx11500, its cea certified, but thats at 4 ohms, so i guess who knows what it really puts out at 2 or 1 ohm, but it claims it can do 2 or 1 ohm and put out 1500rms

but i guess i'll try that 0db test tone...

i'll admit, it was a cheap amp, at $240 shipped brand new with warranty, it's pretty beefy, and has 1/0 gauge inputs...

and clarion has a decent history...

You might be able to turn that volume up too. Just run everything flat and crank it til you car speakers distort and back it off a little. If it reaches higher then the first time that may help also.
