Story is: I've got a very old JL Audio 10w3, works(ed) perfectly until the foam started cracking. Bought a re-foam kit online and spent all day yesterday very carefully working on it, trying to get it perfectly centered, so on and so forth... Installed it and it sounds like garbage... Sounds like/feels like its not centered, and therefore rubs the VC and creates garbage sound.

SO...

If anyone has done re-foams before, is in the DFW area, and wouldnt mind helping me out... I'll gladly give you some money for the time and effort. Just wanna get this sub up and running again.

Thanks

Cut out the surround, and order a new one. Then follow these directions:

Clean Basket to bare metal

Clean up cone for glue

Remove dustcap carefully

Shim the gap using paper/index cards

Carefully glue surround to cone evenly

Glue surround to landing on basket

Reclue dustcap to cone

Quality glue is important. I would recomend CA glue from Fixmyspeaker.com

I didnt do the paper shim... That's where I went wrong :S I actually hadnt thought of that.

The glue seems quality, I cant remember the site atm, but I got 2 foam surrounds, so I've got a spare to do this on again.

I found the best thing on earth to remove the old glue (and the paint came with it, lol) is Acetone... Just make sure the cone doesnt sit in the acetone while its working its magic on the basket.
