Help! Power to speaker wires when amp is off???

Just installed new MTX amp...

power and ground cable connected, turn on lead connected, amp light turns on when key is turned on signaling that amp powers on...

when i turn ignition off and try to connect the sub, seems like there's power in the speaker wires even tho the amp is off...

the sub exerts (pushes up) when i connect both wires to the sub...and if i let the speaker wires touch each other, they spark...

isn't this not suppose to happen unless the amp is on?

what can i do?

no this is the place for it man i just dont know and dont want to put a post up with the wrong shit, sounds to me like your amp is holding power. if you can relay more info about you sterio would be nice. if you have a cap i think it is what is malfunctioning

ya he said it was turning off fine at the key( this is why i dont think its a wire issue)

the amp is a TA7801, trying to run my TC9 10incher at 4 ohms...the amp is BNIB...i unplugged the battery before i pluggin the + from the batt to the amp...then i plugged the batt back on, then tested the amp to make sure it turns on (the fancy lights were on yay!), but then when installing the sub wires to amp then to the sub, this junk happened...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

i dont have a cap either...

the + and - for the subs is right next to the + and - for the amp...and i tried to make sure they're not touching...

i wondering if internally, the power from the amp is touching the + to the subs...

Is your car the style that even if you remove the key from the ignition your stereo system still receives power until you open a door? It's possible if doors are already open and if you don't open one that the trigger never occurs.

Now even so, without the stereo sending a signal on the remote wire your amp still shouldn't be drawing power...unless you don't have your remote wire properly installed?

i'll have to look into what you said about the doors...i don't think my car is that type...what type of cars usually have that?

i don't think my remote wire is wrong...if i don't turn on the key, the amp doesn't power on...

Unhook your amp. Take a piece of wire and touch the + and - terminals together for a few seconds. This will drain the internal capacitors and is kind of "resetting" the amp. Then go from there.
