Iam looking to spend ~200 on components. The car is a buick grand antional. I can 5.25'' in the door some 6'' will fit with modification, I don't want to put in kick panels. Also in my dash up front I have 3.5'' speakers maybe I could put the tweets there?? Iam tring to make the car look as stock as possible. I was looking into cdt's but iam a noob at picking out components

CDT has very good off axis performance. Look into the EF line instead of the CL. The EF are a much better speaker for the money than the CL imo. Also what kind of power do you have to push the speakers?

i can't fit 6.5 and do not want kick panels,I know it would sound better, but want to keep someone stock looking... The most I could fit in my door would be 6'' with some modifications...so the cdt ef's. I dunno what power because I haven't bought an amp yet... what amp would make them sound good? These are the only cdt's I saw that seem to fit my critera http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=3079

What's missing is that nobody here knows what kind of speaker you like. Of course, it's also usual around here to recommend CDT and Rainbow before anyone has any sense whether those even work for the orginal poster.

So, I'd ask, have you tried listening to any speakers? Did you hear anything you like, anything you dislike? I'd try to get at least a rough idea what it is that you like before you buy anything.

That being said, if I were in the market for 5.25 comps, I'd get these while they're still available at this price:

Of course, your taste may vary from mine. So, I'd recommend visiting some shops, listening to different brands and taking mental notes of what you like about the different sets and what you dislike. a/d/s would be perfect for someone who likes smooth highs and an uncolored sound. Someone who likes punchier mids with bright highs would be smart to go to the other end of the spectrum, Focal.

It's not as easy as "Get CDT EFs."

Unless, of course, you sell 'em. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Oh, maybe this for an amp:

I edited my previous post to recommend an amp.

The difference between those particular drivers is that one is Neodymium-magenet driven. Neodyms are stronger magnets, allowing them to use less mass and get the same strength. In effect, it results in a speaker with a smaller motor, without trading off the motor's ability to drive the speaker. This makes it easier to install the speaker in tight places. Some golden ears insist that neodyms don't sound as good (supposedly, ferrite is warmer and alnico is the pinnacle of warmth).

I've used some neodyms in my time (the near legendary DEI 3065s and the newer Exile XP Pros) and think that a well-designed neo speaker performs just as well as any other speaker. Hell, Morel's top-of-the-line drivers are all using ferrite/neo hybrid motors, and I think they're plenty warm. The DEIs were pretty warm, neutral-sounding speakers and had an amazing tweeter at that price point. **** shame DEI went cheap later on, those really were great speakers. They weren't by any means the clinical-sounding, neodym speaker golden ears would have you think they would be.

Ok thanks for that info I think iam going to order the ef's with the Neodymium, just because Iam not totally sure how much space I got in the door. What amp would be good to power these the ppi that notwerk suggested?
