Help?! New JL a1800... no punch?

O.k. I'm no expert with this, so please bare with me.

I just bought a JL a1800, I am using 2 12" Alpine R's. This amp is suppose to put out 1000W at 2ohms. I have it set up as 2 ohms, but the amp sounds weak. I mean, it sounds good, but no punch. Plus I have to have the sub turned up all the way on my Head unit to get half way decent sound.

Does anyone know this amp well enough to know what adjustments to make, or is this just a weak amp? I have had a JBL 600.1 amp at one ohm, and it smoked this thing.

What is the gain set at, and filters, etc...???

What HU you running as some require the SUB level to be all the way up...
