in designing, or matching components to my HU. Might say I've been out of car stereos way too long, was back in the '60's and '70's since I last fooled with this stuff when it was pretty simple. Just when I think I have something figured out, wham! another curve. Here's what I have...'73 Corvette, new HU is Custom Autosound USA-5, 60X4, I did the rest 'blind', want 5 1/4" coaxials in the kicks so, e-bay'd a pair of Pyle PLG5.2 (70 watt RMS/140 peak) Sound like crap! Mistake?
Building a panel for the rear for 2 6X9's and an 8" sub (have a Legacy on order), just bought a pair of Sony XS-R6941 4-way (50 watt/240 peak) Wallyworld specials.(not in yet) Another mistake? My hopes were to be able to drive all the speakers off the HU and just amp the sub. Is this possible? A friend has a 2-ch amp I can get for next to nothing. OR, am I going to have to amp everything? Mind you I'm battling a 383 stroker coming through 40 Series Flowmasters. Loud! I would DEEPLY APPRECIATE everyones opinions including different speakers, suggestions!
and amp recommendations if a 4-ch were needed. I'm retired so $$$ is a bit of an issue. I've been to http://www.woofersetc.com and see many possibilities but just too dumb to figure anything out. I'm hearing on the 'Vette forum that RMS is the more important figure to match speakers than peak power. Sorry for the long rant, and surely hoping someone can come to my rescue! Thanks ahead...Randy
