Help my friend decide....

My friend is bugging out about getting two subs, he used to have JL 12W0s in a sealed box with like 200w rms combined. He wants to upgrade now, I told him one 12" XXX would probably blow his mind, so he went off to researching.

He has a 1,600w rms amp... and he has decided he wants two drivers... understandable, lots of people like the added displacement and overall look of two drivers...

He has the crazy notion that he HAS to go with Magnum D2s, and I don't understand why... I'm not saying that D2s are not great subs, but when he can get two RE HCs for $300 when he is *****ing about how one 12" XXX is a little over $400 and he can get two D2s for $600... two HCs is looking like the obvious choice to me...

Now, I'm going to print this so he can read this (yes Andrew, you ARE going to read this in full) but he is convinced that his 1,600 w amp is not enough for two HCs (which are THERMALLY rated at 1200w rms max)...

I have tried explaining to him that in a ported box you don't need to and often CANT supply the drivers with their max thermal rating, and his 1600w amp is PUHLENTY for his two **** subs....

I'm not sure he understands how much louder any of these setups are going to be compared to his sealed W0s, but I kinda wish he would get a XXX and port it in a big box low and get great SQ with good SPL....

So, that said, what do you guys thing?

Two D2s, one XXX, two HCs, or even two SEs or SExxxs?

Price is sorta an issue here, he wants it loud, wants it to sound good, and doesn't want to spend over $600....

hey were are you getting the HCs from for 300 for 2? I was thinking about getting someo fthose but from what I have found they are 259 for 1.

Well for protegestyle the site you can get two HCs for 300 is http://www.respl.com good luck.

As for the main purpose of the thread, I really hope he understands how loud 2 mag d2s will be. But if you want to get the ultimate setup why not just get one 15'' magnum d2? One 15'' D2 will sound as good as any on your list and will get as loud and much louder than is needed for a daily driver. The 12'' XXX will be very similar to the 15'' D2 but the mag will be close to $100 cheaper. If he is absolutely set on the four choices in the oll then the D2's are definitely my pick but I would definitely consider one 15'' D2. Be aware they wont last long trust me. When they get here on Feb. 27 i wouldn't be surprised if they don't last more than a month for this first batch anyway. good luck on the set up.
