Help : My Engine RPM's Drop

What kind of car do you have and do you have the stock air filter on it. you guys might think this is a dumb question but my car dropped to like 500 rpm cause of a problem with air filter and it only happened in neutral and park, or when I start the engine up when it is warm.

My Batcap 400 doesn't help much, my lights still dim, get a bigger alternator before anything else. I actually think that with the batcap in there my alt whines even more when the bass hits. BTW I have a batcap 400.

hey...so it strains your alt ?

what size is your alt...and what kind of amp u runnin on it ?

also...if u dont mind me askin...exactly how did u connect your batcap ?

I would check out the filter like somebody said, also you could adjust your throttle body to increase RPMs at idle and that might do something. I wouldn't know how though so don't ask //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

oh yes someone recommend i do that, but also said a minor drop in RPM's is normal for cars with audio systems.

i might jus get a cap or batcap to stiffen the voltage

what you all think ?

whoa..

i got a golf 2 / 89 from europe with a default 42a battery and a 2.0 engine... when i pump to the max my rpm´s drop almost 600 / 700... doesnt give a whole lot of problems except i need to pump a small tiny bit before trying to drive away...

I dunno how its with your car, but my current golf is equiped with a so called g-loader (turbo) which works continously while driving and consumes some power also.... my guess is that the loader and the audio together dont work....

One friend of mine had a 1.8gt with the same problem and after changing the block to a 2.5 block it was gone

DO NOT GET A CAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot stress how much a cap is just a waste of money for relatively small systems (heck even most 8000+ watt systems don't need a cap).

The drop in RPM is caused by a loss of power (not only electrical) to the engine. Even with a larger Alt it has to get the power from somewhere. Energy cannot be created nor destroyed (without a nuclear reaction anyway). The electrical energy that your alt puts out is energy taken from the engine. Even with a larger Alternator there would probably be a drop in RPM, maybe not as much but it would still be there.

This is not a problem unless it gets so bad that the engine stalls when the bass hits. I've never seen it happen, so don't worry

To tell you the truth, I would invest in a 3 farad cap. They could be pricy, but it worked for me. if you really wanted to go overboard, put a 3 farad cap and a 2nd battery to keep the power runnin' high. don't worry, if you were to run a 2nd battery, It would be able to be charged by your alternator just like your main battery.

If you decide to go this route, you WILL need to get a bigger-than-stock alternator. A 3-farad cap, and a second battery will put a much larger strain on your existing electrical system.

TBT - your best option is just to spend $200-$300 on a bigger alternator, or get yours rewound.

hey thanks, i noticed the lights on the JBL amp and some of the room lights dim slightly with the bass. Will a cap help this ?

For maybe 1 or 2 bass hits then everything will be the same again.

In order, the steps you should follow to fix lack-of-power problems with car audio is:

1. Bigger alt

2. replace factory battery/alt wires with larger wires

3. replace factory battery witha larger capacity one

A cap is just an expensive band-aid. It will not fix the problem, but it would provide TEMPORARY help

hmmm...well you know i never replaced the stock battery ground, i believe it's 6 gauge

the battery was replaced with a 13 plate batt
