well you want to set your gains according to the rms of the amplifier. if you only have 12 volts constant to your amp, then it will not put out the rms (atleast not this particular amp) in your case you can set it for 1700.

Thanks will do. Isn't it common for HO alt to be less at idle tho? I remember having this discussion with other members and they were all saying the same thing. When the RPM goes over 1000, then we get full 14+ volt.
