Help me upgrade my 2009 infiniti g37 sound system

I just recently bought 2009 Infiniti g37xs SEDAN w/ Premium and Nav. The bose sound system is just okay. Never been a bose fan. Anyways, I have been out of the car audio loop for years now (moved to home theater audio). I do not want to spend a fortune upgrading the sound but I would like to replace the components that will give me the best bang for my buck (up to $1000 budget roughly). I am using an iPod Classic for most of my music. 95% of the audio is lossless, however I do understand I am bypassing the Burr Brown Dac

What components should I target to upgrade? And what brand/model would you suggest? Feel free to suggest a system for under $1K. Keep in mind that I am not a basshead. I rather clear punchy bass. If I can, I would love to leverage the sub enclosure(s) in the car, however I am not opposed to buying new enclosure(s).

What size speakers and sub did you have in mind? are you keeping the stock headunit?

Its not easy to swap out the HU, actually I dont know if you can without very heavy modification

id get a JL audio clean sweep, Audion bit1 or similar, those are the high end and will cost a bit more....

What size speakers and sub did you have in mind? are you keeping the stock headunit?

I will be keeping the Stock Head unit. I am looking at a JL 10 inch sub + JL 250.1 amp which I can snag off CL for ~225. After that I am not sure what speaker brand will be an upgrade over the stock bose speakers and tweeters.

Since your not doing a really high powered system, it would be easiest, and probably cheapest to do a single multi channel amp for the whole thing. If the JL sub your looking at is neither a w7 or w6, then i'd go with an idq over it.

You have an enormous amount of options for a 300-500$ component set. Ideally you would be able to audition the speakers before you buy them, so try to find dealers in your area for brands like dls, dynaudio, arc, rainbow, cdt, image dynamics, morel, focal, and maybe the higher end offerings from alpine, polk, or boston.

I can get a JL 10 inch sub and a JL amp used for about $225. The car break down is as follows:

Dash: 3" Mid

Door: 1" Tweeter, 3" Mid, 10" Woofer

Rear Side: 3" Mid

Rear Deck: 6x9" Woofer

For $500 bucks for that 2-way system, that will run me over $1K just to replace the door speakers!

Your not going to want to replace everyone of those stock speakers. You could if you wanted to buy raw drivers and an active crossover, but that will require a lot more work than just plugging in and playing. If you want to do a passive speaker set up you will have to decide between doing a 2 way or 3 way component system. Your doors have a 3 way right now. You will have to do something different with sizes because i don't know of any 3 way systems that have 3" and 10" drivers. Also, you should forget about rear speakers. Phase/cancellation issues created by a second source point make the investment in rears unjustified, especially in a small car like yours.

Let me know if this makes sense:

Install JL Claansweep

Run sub signal to JL Amp and then run speaker wires to the JL Sub

Replace the 2 front 3 way speakers with 2-way or 3-way speakers (should I get a new amp or can I leverage the bose amp for now?)

Replace the front dash speaker

The speakers you suggest should be a nice step over the Bose right? Thanks for help.

I wouldn't put speakers in the dash for the same reasons i wouldn't put them in the rear. I'm not sure about the bose systems, though i think i read somewhere that you cant use the amps on other speakers. Not sure about that though. Like i said before, what you really should do is find dealers where you can listen to the speakers for yourself and decide which ones you like. You have many many options

Only reason I would replace the speaker in the dash is that the HU has a 'Driver's Sound Stage' function that applies DSP to center the audio around driver. It actually works very well.

A guy offered me a JL 10W1 sub + enclosure for $100 new. I know this sub is pretty much bottom line for JL but I am not looking for trunk shaking base, just pure and clean punchy base that provides more pop than the current Bose 6x9 subwoofer in the back.

I'd recommend finding an infiniti or g37 forum and get advice from the guys there. They should be more helpful with the complexities of your car

I posted on a few of them. Still waiting for responses. I think I am going to take this step by step. First I will add the sub and amp. And then I will replace the fronts.
