Help me stage a Mustang

My friend has a 99 Mustang without the Mach setup. He put an aftermarket deck in the car (some kind of nicer JVC I think). The overall goal is to get the most out of a front stage as possible for $300-400 max. There will be no sub with this for a while so he will need something that produces a decent mid and low.

The request is a set up that produces pretty good SQ, has distinguishable highs and lows, gets pretty loud and has good bass for a mid driver, there will be no sub for a long time so....would it be better to go with a 6x8 or something like that?

I told him the very first place he should start is deadening the doors, the stock speakers were 5x7 so we need to fill that hole, rear stage will not be an issue here.

Sorry that's what I meant by fill the 5x7 hole was to use it with a new speaker...any suggestions of speakers that fit the bill? I was debating a 6.5 component vs. 6x8. Anyone think the 6x8 would be a bad move?

So far I am thinking some Pioneer Rev comps or Polk comps ~$150

Profile or other cheap 75-100 x 2 amp ~$80

RAAMAT ??~$75??

Wires ~$40

That leaves some room to pay for anything misc or maybe a lil better set of speakers. Lets hear some other Speaker/amp suggestions and why...

a great speaker that is just a drop in with that particular car is the boston acoustic SL80. it is a component set installed in a 6x8 plate. they sounds awesome, as you could expect nothing less from boston.

In my 99 mustang I had the tweeters in the same place they had the mach tweeters. I just cut a hole and mounted them flush in those cups. I ran image dynamics CX64 comps. Only problem with running tweets that high is time alignment issues. If the deck doesnt have T/A then you might want to mount tweeters lower.

Sorry if this is a tiny thread jack but I have been looking at the Boston SL60 set for a project I am putting together. Have you by chance heard them? If so what did you think of them? Thanks.

The profile amp should be good, check out their website for great deals on refurbished amps. I run one and havent had a problem in the year I have owned it. I believe their a bit overrated but will put out power fairly close to the ratings.
