Help me select my first sub setup!

So I just bought my first truck, a 2004 F150 Lariat Supercrew. I want to beef up the sound, but I know close to nothing about subs/amps/wiring. I don't need a $2000 system with the best of everything, just something decent. I don't want to be rattling everyone else's cars while sitting at a stop light 24/7, however, I would like the ability to do a decent job every once in a while.

So I know the 2004-2008 Supercrews aren't the best for putting subs in. I have pretty much narrowed down the box I am going to get to a Fox box. The sound seems to be good from reviews and it is much deeper than most others(6 1/8 in.).

So now I need you guys to help me make a smart decision on what subs to buy. I will be putting in 2 10 in. subs. The two I am primarily looking at are Kicker CVR's and Alpine Type R's. Are these decent subs? Which is better? 2 ohm or 4 ohm? Others in the same category that are better?

Also, which amp should I get and how should I wire it? Where should I get the wiring ect. from?

I am also planning on getting the Pioneer 4300DVD.

I went to a local shop and he quoted me $470 for a box, 2 Kicker Comp 10s (he said that's all that would probably fit in their box), amp and installation. I think I could get a better system if I purchased all the stuff online and installed it myself (I am very mechanically inclined).

Thanks in advance, I know you guys probably get these all the time!!!

i got 2 skar vvx 12s for cheap //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif will destroy kicker comps in every way.

Tell him you will give him $200. There is so much better subs out there, many you have never heard of and will not find local. Hand built is the US will builtproof soft parts. They are nowhere near as much $$ as you think. Spend some time around here and you will figure alot of stuff out before you go spend a ton of money on sub par gear. Im not the one to tell you what to run, you can figure that out on your own like I did.

Skar audio now also makes 10" VVX's so you're good on that. SSA Dcons are a really good choice too with the amount of output they have compared to how much they cost. Also DC level 2 or level 3 subs will do the job fairly well at a neat price. SSA.com and dcsoundlab.com will give you some insight on these products.

I have an Alpine MRD-M1005 in perfect condition. It's a 1000w mono amp with a small footprint. I used this to power 2 Type R12's and it was a perfect match.

The reason I am no longer using it is I now need a bass control knob with my stock HU. With the headunit you are choosing, this would not not be an issue, as you will have sub level control.

$150 plus shipping. Pm me if interested.

Here are the specs on the box:

2-10" SEALED DOWN FIRE

12" IS NOT AVAILABLE.

INTERNAL AIR VOLUME: .65 per side

DIVIDED: YES

SUB SIZE: 10"

HOLE SIZE: 9.125"

MOUNTING DEPTH: 6 1/8" WITH A 6 INCH DIAMETER MAGNET

CONNECTORS: 2 SCREW MOUNTED SPRING TERMINALS

FLOOR CLEARANCE: 1.5"

The reason I came here was because I didn't think those were the best subs I could get for the price, I just don't know many brands or which are good. I don't have the money (well I just don't want to spend it on subs) to go around testing stuff out, I want to get something I'll be happy with for at least a few years. I know there is not a lot of space under the seat so I need to now which subs will work well in my application. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look them over and come back with more questions!! lol

That is small.. The ones mentioned above are some of the best drivers out right now.. All US made except for the SA. Most built to order for a really fair price.

What about this box:

2" clearance under the box

Air Space = .95 cubic foot Per Sub

Mounting Depth = 6.25" (Optional 6 7/8" available)

Mounting Depth based on 6" diameter magnet

Box divider & Speaker terminals included

Hole cutout for 8" Sub = 7"

Hole cutout for 10" Sub = 9 1/8"

Hole cutout for 12" Sub = 11"

Would that be big enough for some 12s? Would it be worth lifting the seat?
