Help Me Pick a Budget Mono <$150

I have narrowed down my choices for a class-D budget mono amp. The amp needs to be less than $150 shipped and must produce at least 300W @ 2ohms. The amp also needs to be digital since I am running this in a 2001 Civic that has a weak stock alternator. The amp will be powering a CDT HD-1020 subwoofer in a ported cabinet that will probably be 1.3cu ft @ 32Hz. The sub is 400W RMS and 800W peak. I don't need to pound the sub I just want a cheap amp that will get the job done. What do you guys think?

1. Directed D600 $80

600W Peak

RMS Power Output:

200 watts x 1 chan. @ 4 ohms

300 watts x 1 chan. @ 2 ohms

2. Kenwood KAC-8103D $90

1000W Peak

RMS Power Output:

300 watts x 1 channel @ 4 ohms

500 watts x 1 channel @ 2 ohms

3. MTC TC3001 $100

900 Watts max

150 Watts RMS x 1 @ 4 ohms

300 Watts RMS x 1 @ 2 ohms

4. Kicker ZX400.1 $100

200 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (400 watts x 1 at 2 ohms)

400 watts Peak x 1 at 4 ohms (800 watts x 1 at 2 ohms)

5. Power Acoustik REACT1-1100 $90

4-Ohms @ 300 x 1

2-Ohms @ 400 x 1

Power Handling (MAX) : 1100 Watts

Personally, I think any of those choices would most likely fit your needs. The only one I do have experience with is the Kicker ZX line. Which is why I'd choose the Kicker amp in this situation. They're solid amps and they usually do more than rated power. As long as the Kicker has the features and power you need, and is within budget, it's a good choice imo.

They have a class D mono?
I don't think so, but honestly, at 300w class is going to make very little difference.

400w at 75% is going to draw no more than 14A (average) playing music at full volume. Probably 5-10A most of the time

400w at 60% will be no more than 17A (average).

Class D isn't a bad idea with a smallish alt (70A isn't it?), but I don't think it's an absolute must.

FWIW - I ran a 1000w+ system (380w class a/b and 700w class D) on a 75A alt in a car that probably had more stock electrical demand than your civic does. It wasn't ideal, but it worked ok for a couple years.

I would recommend the kenwood or kicker after using both brands. I think the kicker will hold it's value the most if you decide to sell and upgrade down the road.

I am personally looking at the Kenwood 9103d amp and ikesound.com sells it for $148 but I am not sure what the shipping price is. It claims 900x1 @ 2ohms.

Peace, Lee
