Help me decide on things please because I am clueless

I want to replace the stock system in my 2002 Subaru Forester. I currently has a double DIN head unit, 6.5" front speakers with separate tweeters, and 4" rear speakers.

I want to replace the stock system with a head unit featuring a CD player, front USB, and a 3.5 mm input.

I plan on ditching the rear speakers because I don't drive around with passengers all that often and they really aren't adding much. I figure I can put that money into the rest of the system and be better off. I don't want a sub.

This is where I get clueless.

Since my budget is pretty limited (under $400.00 for the whole thing) I plan on installing it all myself to safe money. This means no custom fabrication and no modifications to make stuff fit. I pretty much want to plug and play. I'm not too adverse to purchasing a mounting kit since the top-depth mount seems shallow.

I considered the Alpine SPR-17S component system for the front speaker replacement and going with the Clarion DXZ385USB for the head unit. But with those speakers, would I need a separate amp?

Can anyone give me feedback on my choices so far and if possible, recommend a better set up?
