Clipping is a problem with the amp, not the speaker

How can i tell if its clipping or reaching full excursion and bottoming out? Its hard for me to describe the sound, but basically when i turn up the HU volume, the sub hits nice but makes a weird "pwee pwee" sound, like a metallic clanging noise.

i sure as hell wasnt going to read this whole thread but i read a few pages of it ... anyway, i am running 2 12" RL-p with 1 NINe.1 at 1 Ohm off a Premier 860 6V preouts, i had no probs with any type of break in or anything like "spiders to stiff" , my gain is no where near where you at first had it at 60%, i barely had to turn mine up at all to achieve the correct voltage read out, maybe 10% and it wangs believe me. At first i had my gain too high causing clipping and you could see the sub surround wrinkling and hear the sub "knocking" inside the box, with the help of mike from soundsplinter we determined that the sub was bottoming out, causing the knock, so i reset the gains again and have had no probs.

i have no idea what pwee pwee sound your talking about could be

So you think my problem is wiring related then?

what kind of box do you have?

sorry they are in a sealed box seperate chambers about 1.2-1.25 cubes each

I take it thats after displacement? So what do you think my problem is? Right now gain is at 50%, its definately clipping when i turn it up, but it doesn't sound very loud at all.

On the contrary, the RL-p can and will bottom out if fed too much power (it will take quite a bit of power before slammin' though). Seems everyone here has laid out the cards and now it's time for ls1pimp to make some decisions. For one thing, lay off that gain man - you don't want to destroy the woofer before you have a chance to get your setup set straight! Get your wiring to the battery and try to find a way to use either a 1.25 - 1.35 NET volume sealed or 1.5 - 2.0 NET volume ported @ 34 Hz enclosure. 0.85 cu ft NET is simply not going to give you the output you want PERIOD.

Don't forget about enclosure positioning and noise cancellation as well - but seriously man:

Get wiring done properly

Ease up on your gain - if the woofer is clippin' and makin' all sorts of nasty noise, you are hurting it and need to back off on the gain.

Change your enclosure

So now that you've heard this so many times, are you ready to go do it?!

well, i dunno about the box for a while, i am gonna have to find someone to build me one first. As far as the wiring, i am gonna wire it to the battery in the AM.

yeah mine was bottoming out at only about 20-25% gain, so i made some corrections and gain is very low and subs be very loud

i would definately agree that it is box and/or wiring

Tommorow's goals are to rewire the power wire to the battery and stuff some polyfill in the box (1.5 lbs). Ill post back after i do that for updates and hopefully some good news. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If i have amped speakers, is there any harm in lowering the sub amp gain and just turning up the HU volume louder than i usually listen to it in order to get lots of bass?

its not the box
OMG this will never end. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif Tommorow i will find out if its the wiring or not. If it is not the wiring, more posts will have to be made. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
