[/font] Hey I am new at all of this car audio. Only been into it about 6 months. I have done much research but one thing I would like clarified is the wiring process. What I am looking at are two 12 inch Rockford Fosgate Punch HX2's with dual 4 or 2 ohm voice coils and have 200 watts RMS for each Voice Coil So 400 watts per sub.

My question pertains to the amplifier though. Would I want a 2 channel amp or a mone amp to power these babies and how exactly would I wire them.

I figure I would wire them in parallel but I want to know exactly how that is done.

Now once this is clarified I would like to know how much power each sub is actually receiveng. I am pretty focused on the dual 2-ohm version and I sort of know how to wire them to get 2 ohms of impedance using a mono amp. How much power should the amp put out to power the total of 800 Watts RMS of the 2 subs (4 voice coils)

Can the same be done using the 4-ohm version w/ a 2-channel amp.

This is kind of a lot of questions but I love this stuff, but I have problems understanding some things. I know most is based on opinion but any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would go with a mono amp. It's a lot easier to wire and they tend to be more efficient. If you go with two dual 4 find an amp that is stable to 1ohm and if you go with two dual 2 find an amp that is table to 2ohm. If you do a search you probably can find alot of mono amps that fit you description.

If you use a mono each sub will see half the total rms power of the amp (if wired correctly). If you use too channel it really depends on the how you wire the amp. Hope this helped.

Go with the Rockford Fosgate power 1051s, 265x2 @ 4 ohms, 525x2 @ 2ohms, 1050x1 @ 4ohms. It will give you plenty of power, and it being stable to 1 Ohm will give you wiring flexibility. IF YOU END UP GOING WITH THIS AMP YOU'LL WANT TO GET THE DUAL 4 OHM SUBS, they will give you a 1 ohm load. :patriotic

yea, that amp is not 1ohm stable.

If you go with amp, you will need to get the dual 4 versions. Then wire the voice coils of each sub in parellel and then wire the 2 subs in series to the amp bridged.

OOPs My bad. But you can still get this amp and run the speakers(dual 4 ohm coils) in series parallel. Wire each speakers coils in series, then parallel the subs. This will give you a 4 ohm load. Still having plenty of power from the same amp. Sorry bout the brain fart. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif

so does that mean i would need an amp that gives 800 watts at 4-ohms impedance?? If so what if I just got the dual 2-ohm version and wired them in series parallel so i could get a cheaper amp w/ about the same quality.

Yeah you could do that. I would still get the 1051s cause amps that run at 2 ohms work harder than those at 4 ohms, plus your distortion level goes up everytime you lower the impedance. I would stick with the dual 4 ohm subs and run them at four ohms bridged. But thats just me.
