HELP!!!!Home Receiver Problem.....Strange Noise

I was recently given a RCA Home stereo receiver. It was working fine until one day after about 15 minutes all of the speakers began making a sound I can only describe as a "digital static" . almost like a scrambled sound. I thought it was the source but I checked the connections and everything was tight. I also noticed that it would never happen right away..Always took a few minutes....and only happened in surround mode.....wondering if i should repair or junk the unit......Any input will be greatly appreciated

Well that would work but I really only wanted it for that feature.....anyway the dolby processor is bad....can i reset somehow ....its relatively new maybe 5 years hate to junk it....only free because it was a relative's

once the processor is shot.....it's shot. it's really not that uncommon on lower end receivers.

it's not a complete waste. you could move it out to the garage or something and just have stereo sound for music.
