Let me start out by describing my set up and what I have. I have a HO alternator, 2 optima yellow top barriers, I did the big thread upgrade and no wire is smaller then 4 gauge, the site running from the front of the car to the back is 2 gauge silver wire, 1 5 farad cap, 3 amps, 1 amp is a jbl 15001 which has my two tens, the other two amps are kenwood excelon kac-x501f, one kenwood amp has mbquart tweeters and midrange the other kenwood amp has mbquart midbass, two 2xs and 1 Eqx. Out of no where and only on certain songs or just more noticable in those songs the bass clips and also my dash lights dim with bass my hid headlights and hid fogs don't dim at all, the dimming happens all the time, both of these problems I never had when my system for first installed, I checked the most logical things first with a DMM, both batteriesand cap with car off ate 12.6 v with car on at idle both batteries and cap are 14.4v, which the system at high volume the front battery doesn't drop below 13.23v. Nothing goes into protection mode. No amps gets so hot you can't touch them, the amp that gets the hottest is the kenwood with the midbass on it and again it's no where near really hot but noticeably warmer then the other two amps. I've used the DMM to check the voltage at the bass amp with car off it's 12.5 and with car at idle it's 14.4. The resistance in the bass speaker wire with system off is 2.8 and with system on is 3.4, I don't know the oringinal resistance of the subs, I know they are dual ohm though but I don't know if they are dual 2 or 4. My next tests which will be tomorrow will be the play the system at the volume I listen to and check the voltage and resistance on a song that it doesn't clip on and thEen a song that it does clip on and to check the voltage on the second battery and cap when i have the system at volume i listen to it at. Also if I lower the volume by 2, going from 25 to 23 the bass no longer clips but dash lights still dim. Once I do the other test with the DMM I will post the results but until then does anyone have any idea on what it might be? My guess is the subs resistances are dropping to low and they need to be replaced or fixed. Thank you and sorry that you had to read all of that.
