Help, Getting The Best Out Of This... Setup

A friend gave me hit car audio stuff for free, since he didn't end up getting his car.

Lanzar amp 2000 rms - MXA282

2 15" 1000 rms - MAXP154D

not the greatest but, since i don't feel like investing in any sound i figure i'll do with what i have.

i'm a computer engineer, which if you know anything has nothing to do with sound so i'm basically trying to find out how to make these things sound as good as they possibly can.

i'm not asking for smart remarks or insults regarding the above mention items. please just help.

i've already installed the system myself, basically the box is garbadge but i want advise on what kind of box to get ported or sealed. dual or single.?

i have only one sub running now since i have only one box, a big sealed box that didn't come with it, he just purchased any 15" sub box.

anyway all help is welcome.

I dont know the specs or background of this equipment but i suggest that would be a starting point. Then the specs of your front stage.

if your front stage can provide good midbass go ported and tune it around 33Hz, otherwise tune a bit higher(this is debateable I guess). As for size, check how much space u got and whether the enclosure would fit thro' the opening as well.

do a search for software u could use to design the box, like winisd or bassboxpro. otherwise theres some diy websites that'll give u box specs based on your T/S parameters and port tuning, and some will run you through the fabrication as well.

As a computer engineer I think u'll do just fine as long as you do your homework before buying material and tools. Otherwise just pay to have it made up if you dont have the time or money, but that'll be no fun. Hopefully others here will be more helpfull.

Good luck!

while testing the sound setup, not very loud at all the sub looks like it's moving more than necessary, almost like it's moving to some kind of distortion but the sound comming out is not, sound perfect. just moving too much, and when i turn it up...

the over exagerated movements, seem to enterfere with an otherwise nicely sounding sub.

how can i fix this or find the source of the problem...

just for your info, my audio source is digital, it's my harmon kardon, drive & play kit. connected directly to my ipod.

the rca going to the amp is fed from a rear line output converter, hmmm, maybe the gain is too high. ? don't know.

all help is wanted. and once i get this done i'll post some pics for you guys.

Also as for the box, i know absolutely nothing about port tuning and all that guys. but if i knew the specs i could have it made .lol //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif, all i know is mdf wood is required... lol lol sad i know. i'm a computer geek not a box freak... lol

That could be due to a leak in the box. I'd suggest using your hand and feel for air around the joins in the box while music is playing. Then just use some silicon caulk and let it dry for a hour or so. Otherwise just seal it all up again. if u dont have one already, use weather stripping on the sub or box to prevent leaks between box and sub after mounting it.
