I was sitting in the car for about 30 mins listening to the music with the sub off and then I went to class. As I got back, my amps wont turn on. I got home and check the remote wire, power wire, and grounds, everything was good. Now I use the DMM to check both of my amps, they aren't getting any power. So my question is, are my amps starving because i'm running 4 gauge into the distro and 8 gauge out to the amps? ://content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The pics are showing me that as soon as my fuses are in, voltage drops dramatically, should I be running 1/0 or 2 gauge instead ?

If the subs were working fine beforehand... I would say there is probably not a problem with the size of the power wire.

I would check down the lines and see if you possibly loosened the ground wire, burnt one of the wires...or have a short somewhere.

Okay, yesterday night, I came home it somehow turned back on and I was able to hear the sub and the comps in play but for only about 3 mins it turned back off, with my car off again. BTW, my car starts fine and battery's reading are good.

We can not emphasis enough. If the amp isnt going into protect mode... and the subs keep going on and off, and the voltage is having a huge drop and jump, then the ONLY thing possible or LOGICAL is gotta be a ground... weither its from the battery up at the front or the ground driectly from the amp.

You said you shaved it down to the metal, but ive seen it where the connection was still lose and caused it to bump on and off...

DOUBLE check... its not good to keep gaining and losing a ground... could short something out.

bare metal sure, but where in the car? Just the other day i saw some guys ground on the back of his rear folding seat...
I grounded them to one of the bolts on the frame of the trunk, right under where the seats intersect. If you need a pic then let me know.

Yeah, I doubt there's a short, or else both my amps would be in protect mode, unless Alpine's doesn't show them, for sure JL's red light didn't go off. I'll look back into the ground again.

Another idea to test your amp ground is to leave the + lead of the DMM on the fuse block, and put the - DMM lead on the - terminal on the amp. If you are still gettin a funky reading, its most likely something with the ground.

Well not nessicarly...... it could depend on the current draw for the amps and if its reciving enough for the amp to turn on... each of your amps dont require the same amount of power... to be powered. So if there is a short it may still be enough with the shitty ground to turn on a amp that doesnt require alot.

(Correct me if im wrong)
