What??

Gain knob has nothing to do with ohms.

Set bass boost on amp at "0". Everyone here will tell you this. And just use the subwoofer level control on the HU instead. This is what I have done as well. Mine goes to +15 max. Some HU are less.

I don't remember why but I think the bass boost on amps will lead to clipping, distortion or something of the like.
@Jeffdachef can prob explain it better.

What he's referring to is setting the gains with a DVM. I'm not sure you'd have to check. And from what I've read on here bassboost adds a 40hz bass note that was never supposed to be there which puts extra stress on the amp which will lead it to clipping and distortion. Atleast that's what I've taken from what I've heard

I wouldnt use a 0 db test tone unless you are listening to extreme heavily bass boosted music.

If you listen to decaf and or other rebassing artists then i'd use a -5 db test tone. If you listen to normal hip hop, i'd use -7 or -8 db test tone. If you listen to mainstream pop and rock i'd use a -10 db test tone. If you listen to spanish music, i'd use a -15db tone. 0db test tones are too strong vs the actual levels of bass in music so if you set gains with that instead, its not gonna translate well into musical performance aka wayy undergained.

I'd have the sub level all the way up, volume up high around before it starts to distort and reset the gains again with a proper test tone. Then when you switch genres lets say from rock to hip hop, you can lower the sub level down to match the music because your sub level is also basically a gain control. Use the rule of, if it stops getting louder, turn the sub level down a few notches and you should be safe from blowing your subs. Use your senses as best judgement from there.

Let me know if you need a particular level of test tone after you check out the bass levels in your music.

My HU bass boost goes up to +6 have it set at 0 now Ill be messing with that a bit more.

Also, I have messed with gain from low to high just by ear and I hear no distortion going from low to high

Distortion cannot be heard by your ear. When you turn it up and it stops getting louder, you are past clipping territory and in danger level for your subs.

Lol I beg to differ... Sub damaging distortion is not really heard by ear but you can really hear an extreme distortion that would grenade yo sheeit

jeff said the same thing, well lets just all fight about it, that makes sense lol even though we're saying the same thing

just so we're clear for those not understanding, you will not hear the onset of distortion, high distortion with hard clips you will hear. now hearing low distortion is arguably possible, there's been times where ive heard my sub get freaked out by huge signal distortion on a small soft clip, the amp topology will determine the type of distortion. when i scoped my taramps in soft clips it looked terrible with random spikes, when i scoped a nine.2x in distortion it was a stepped sinewave. completely different

Anyone near me willing to help me dial it in?
