Help design a SMALL SPL system

space makes bass, if your not going to give up any space your not gonna get any bass especially the low lows. Just grab a 12 inch alpine type r and put it in a sealed and run your 1k rms focal amp to it and be done with it. Not gonna get any cheaper and simpler than that while meeting most of the requirements. There is no magical sub that can work well producing 20 hz in a limited amount of space, maybe some pheonix gold cyclones but those are rare.

To reach your actual goals as you've outlines as others said is impossible. 10hz is retard low, no sealed sub is hitting that with any authority without A LOT of cone area and xmax, think 4 15's in a wall or more. Even ported you'd need an EBS box and honesty, sealed would still be the way to go given space for something that silly in a vehicle. You haven't given a specific amount of space your willing to give up, but when people want to go low without much room I usually steer them in the direction of a 10 in a larger ported box or sometimes an 8 in a T-Line. Box won't be super small in either case vs a sealed box for those subs, but on an absolute scale they aren't to big and will both perform better than a 12 sealed in the lower octaves in most cases.

Thanks for clarifying, However I have no problem going ported. If I have to lose some space I just want to make sure it's manageable meaning I can still fold down my seats and get my tools or detailing supplies in there without taking the box out. Usually the tools or detailing supplies consume the full trunk with the seats up, if I fold them down I would at least have 6ft long and 3ft wide left.

Look into doing a t-line. It's not an SPL box per say, but it will get lower than a sealed box would down low and will still sound good as long a you get a good design. Should be a good choice as it will play very low naturally and still sound good but if your used to a sealed box it will have more output than your used to while not losing quality.

After reading all the comments there is some good advice, but in order to actually help you there is one key thing that is missing. How loud is loud? You say small SPL set up but that depends on who's reading your post. For me i think a 150 ( which is impossible of a sealed 12 @ 1kw) but someone else might think 140. You need to specify what number your looking for in order for anyone to actually be able to help.

I had same prob not getting that low bass I wanted.. so I had a box built and told the guy I want lows!!! tuned to 34hz......

thats what a box that hits 20hz and under looks like. and its squeezed into the back of a pt cruser with no back seats ;-)

thats what i think of when some one says small spl box..i had it made big as i could for car. i had to learn hard way wasting money on smaller boxes tryen to get low.. it takes a big box end of story!
