My first head unit. I'm looking for SQ. I have narrowed it down. My choices are......

Kenwood excelon KDC-x993

alpine CDA-9886

JVC Arsenal KD-A805

or possibly alpine CDA-9887 (Bad reviews are turning me away)

Which one is best for SQ? I'm leaning towards the kenwood or apline cda 9886.

I own both a kenwood and alpine, I would choose the kenwood over the alpine due to the features to price ratio.

9886: 2 band parametric EQ, sub controls, loudness.

9887: Active capable, time delay, 5 band graphic/7 band parametric EQ, 6 channel time delay.

I don't know what reviews you saw but the 9887 is the only head unit in that Alpine lineup worth buying if you want decent SQ features and are not interested in paying 150 bucks for IMPRINT.

The 9886 really doesn't offer much if you plan to tweak. Im not too fond of Alpine because they've set their line of head units up so anybody who wants useful features either has to buy IMPRINT or go with a 9887, while other manufacturers offer a larger variety of choices at different levels.
