Help Bridging Amp

It's been about 25 years since I had a loud stereo. Now I'm 43 years old and still like it loud.

Anyway I have a Kenwood Excelon x700-5 amp. It pushes 2 front 4ohm speakers in door and 2 rear pillar speakers 4ohm. Also pushes a RF 12" sub but not for long. I am going to get another amp for the sub.

My problem is I tried to bridge the amp today while the music was playing and my amp shut off. I turned the truck ignition off and back on and the amp came back on but I thought I would ask you guys and girls before I go any further.

Is it just as easy as twisting the left positive speakers wires together and insert them in the bridge terminal of the amp and do it for the other positives and negatives? I thought I used to do it this way but I'm wondering if the amp shut off because there is something wrong with my speaker wire up or maybe the screwdriver hit something on the amp speaker terminals that made the amp shut off. Do I need some sort of jumper? Do I need to get to the rear of my door speakers and pillar speakers?

The speaker wires going from the unit to the amp are coming from the harness in the back of the radio not the individual speakers.

Hope this makes sense and hope you can help.

First i wouldn't do that while the amp is on and playing. Secondly what are you bridging on the amp? The sub? The door speakers? What i suspect is when you bridged your ohms were to low. Bridge with a 4 ohm load internally the amp see's 2ohms.

Why are you trying to bridge the Kenwood amp? 40 watts X 4 for the speakers, and 500 X 1 for the amp should be enough power to blow you out of your car. What type speakers are you using? Brand and nominal wattage?

Have you tried turning up the gain on your amplifier?

Thanks.
