Hey i just put a little system in my beater car. I had a fosgate 4ch in it, than i took it out and put in an alpine 4ch i got yesterday well it sounds good, turn it up and it keeps sounding good. Well turn it up and turn up the bass knob and when it hits it shuts off? turn the bass knob down and no problem. i hooked up my fosgate back up and its fine. Something loose in the amp? or is the sub amp drawing power and cutting it off? any ideas? Thanks for any help.

What impedance are your subs wired up for and what impedance does the new amp allow when bridged to the subs?

Bad amp or maybe a bad ground. Is the Alpine a larger amp....meaning can it pull more current vs the fosgate amp?

If the Alpine pulls more current and you have a bad or loose wire/connection somewhere, that could do it.

I'm having the same issue with my bass amp but only at loud volumes and it's not a voltage drop on my front voltmeter, but I haven't started troubleshooting it, I'm interested in this thread.

Anyone that just jumps to conclusions that you have a bad amp knows absolutely nothing about troubleshooting a problem. Make sure that your subs aren't wired at a lower impedance than the amp is able to handle. After you confirm they are the correct impedance we will move forward.

Who is jumping to conclusions?

I certainly was not.....Just a possibility, thats all.

Well, In my case I have had my sub for almost a year connected positive to positive and negative to negative, and to amp and haven't had this problem to recently when I put the volume of the hu somewhat high and the bass is loud on the song it shuts the bass and if I lower the volume of the hu a little, the bass resumes.

I should of specified the amp that cuts is on my mids and highs not on the subs but when i turn up the subs the mid/high amp is the one that cuts off

That sounds like you are drawing too much power causing that amp to die.

Dose it actually loose power?

Do you have a single power ran to the back or separate wires front to back for the amps?

Here is a question that needs to be asked...
Is the amp loosing power or is sound just cutting out?
That i would like to know to its in the back so when i get time i'm going to have to put it back in and see if the power is cutting or whats happening, the amp is in the back of the trunk i cant see. but soon as i turn the bass knob down n a sec or 2 the mids and highs come back on. as long as i don't crank the bass the alpine amp sounds good and don't mess up. i didn't have time to do a full look over so i put the fosgate 4ch back in till i get time but there is no loose wires or bad grounds and if the imped was off i wouldn't be able to crank the mids/highs without sub. i also should add, it shouldn't be vibrating around back there because it's trunk walled with 1 DC 15".
