Heavy Metal Sub's?

yes you CAN make them flat...
lets do some looking though shall we?

gary biggs one of my buddies....his regal his front stage (subs) was sealed

marks 4 runner his subs that were on for sq ALSO sealed

david hogan...won sq in meca a couple of times the box in his truck SEALED

people use sealed boxes because its easier to create a flat response on the rta compared to a ported box which is going to have a port resonsance PERIOD wood resonates and the wood of the port resonates...dumbass have a ****ing clue who your talking to before you start your shit.

i've helped on world class sound quality installs (some ported as well that flunked *** on the rta) and spl installs i'm not an idiot
I never said you cant make a sealed box flat IN CAR //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif but that wasnt my main objection to your post, it was your "ported boxes sound worse" and "have a 12db gain at tuning" bullshit that tells me you dont know what you're talking about... and "port resonance"... gimme a fucking break son... yeah "port resonance" makes ported boxes sound terrible... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif ever thougth why most home audio subs are ported? But they must sound terrible from "port resonance" right.... jesus

Damn your eyes must be sore from all that rolling.

I've always had difficult keeping that fast playing double bass up front and center. Maybe it's because it's more in the midrange than what the sub plays?? So maybe you should be looking at adding a dedicated midbass up front with that type of music?? I dunno....I'm just thinking out loud.

My old Eclipse Alum was really great with that type of music. Not sure if it was due to the light weight of the cone?? Man that thing could move fast!!

you dont even know! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Exactly, the initial "hit" of the bass is alot of midbass and should be played by your front speakers, the trail end of the "hit" is subbass and is usually played by the subs.

While cone mass will affect the parameters of the sub, the weight range used by manufacturers is not going to make the cone go "slower" in a way to not be able to "keep up". Think about how precise a sub must be to even play a tone of 100hz, that means the sub is going back and forth 100 times per second! If it can "keep up" with that, it can certainly handle some double bass, just to put it in perspective

right all pro audio subs are in decent size slot ported boxes too aren't they?

your arguments tell me you've never been on a rta...show me response curves (in car) of your setup and you can argue

For the last time, I'm not arguing that a sealed box can play flat in car, thats the very reason I run a sealed box these days. And no, my current setup has not been on an rta, although using a handheld meter and charts to set my eq, I have it playing VERY flat... but this has nothing to do with this discussion ???

thats what i was talking about man....its highly doubtful that all he's going to be playing in that car is metal...unless he's super hardcore //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

so i was suggesting a sealed box simply for the fact that it would give him the kick he needed with his fast paced metal music...and still sound decent if he wanted to listed to somtehing else....

the port noise and things i were talking about were in refrence to competing...which, in fact, didn't have anything to do with the post....

just trying to a help a guy out

fair enough, I only took offense to the comments about how terrible ported boxes were for his application, when, although a sealed box is probably best, a ported box could easily be worked in aswell, plus I was on a roll after bitching at that other guy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Whoa! so many reply's so soon its gonna be a bit befor ei can read them all THANKS PPL SERIOUSLY THANKS!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryexcited.gif.c26a15f316d23068607f36ddacd7a7ab.gif :veryexci:

Ouch, I knew this was going to happen.. That's why I didn't get into details, I just made a general statement based on the kind of music he listens to, and I tread carefully while making it, but I still stand behind it.. In general, a sealed box is going to be preferred for the type of music he listens to, but it's far from his only choice.. I figured a n00b with 1 post asking this type of question wanted a quick answer, and that's what I gave.. No need to fly off the handle and assume nobody knows what their talking about..
Yours was a good suggestion //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif And yes I was a bit too pissy, I just hate seeing totally baseless things being thrown around which only endorses more people repeating the nonsense that they read here. I'm growing a bitter forum member after a few years of this stuff over and over... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

I'm partial to my Dayton Audio HO 12" my self.

I listen to everything from Nighingale to Bloodbath, and I can say that I love every second of my stereo.

Mag 12's MURDERED on the double bass in Symphony in Peril's "Stiletto". All out balls to the wall... I can't wait to see what the 15's do with it and 1.2kW each //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

NGSM13 can testify to the 12's.

So what would be a good Combination of speakers to get for that upfront midrange? if thatll help my double bass sound more destructive im game i absolutly LOVE insane Metal but i must confess i do abide in "Herbal Jazz Cigarettes" and when i do i must say chillin out in my garage in my car or driving somewhere and enjoying the scenery i do happen to listen to more slow mellow stuff and my girlfriend happens to like Bjork who uses alot of slow really deep stuff so i guess im lookin for something that can cater to both our needs.

And to all the guys out there who are actually trying to help a nOOb out i give ya'll much thanks im gonna have to do some research on what you guys were showin me but keep in mind that i do live in British Columbia Canada and im thinkin some of the stuff you ppl can get might not be available in canada.

AAAAND one more quick one i was wondering if ordering some stuff from a company would be better then buying some "brand name" stuff from say Futureshop, or Visions, a chain sotre LOOVE the input ppl THANKS again!!!

and just so ya all know i am leaning more towards the Sealed box just for the fact that the boxes are simpler to make (i think) so yah thanks again ppl

i run two koda 10s sealed (1.6 cu.ft) in a prefabbed thunderform. sound better with rock/heavy metal (luv punchy kickdrums) than with bassheavy rap, need to tweak down the bass level at the stock HU, or they bottom out, sounding like airhammers.
