Headunit not working as i expected

Hello, i recently passed my driving license, my parents have got 3 cars, so they dont want me to buy a new car, so they let me drive which ever one is free, and that is 90% of the time a Ford Galaxy from 99, yeah might not be a young persons car but its definatly gos its advantages, anyway, all the stock speakers in the car were bust, so i got some new pioneers (ill update with the model), 35Watt RMS it think, and some mates for my 18th got me a JVC KD-R811, to replace the old headunit.

So here is the problem, ive installed it, and it works fine most the time, apart from when i get in the car early in the morning when its cold and it doesnt seem to work for a few minutes, and the fact that whenever i take the keys out of the ignition it turns of the headunit (normal), but it also forgets certain things, for example, its always comes on in demo mode, even when ive turned it off, and if i leave my USB key in it always starts from the 1st song, all my EQ settings get forgotton, and the time. Only certain things like Bluetooth devices, and radio stations seem to stay in memory.

Can someone tell me what the problem is and what i can do ?

and also is there any way i can get some extra juice out of the speakers (or just so i can get some extra loudness without saturation), like getting some "tweeters" or something like that?

Thanks

First, the best way to get "more sound" is to run a 4 channel amp to your door speakers and eventually upgrade to a component set.

Second, you deck doesnt sound like its hooked up right. Did you buy a harness for the radio? Did you wire it yourself? Do you have a multimeter? You need the yellow wire on the radio to go to a constant battery power source, that is one that is on when the car is off, it will show 12ish volts. the red wire needs to go to an ignition wire, that is a wire that shows 12v when the car is on only. It sounds like this is what your yellow wire is connected to.

Right thanks, i cant remember how the wires were wired up, i just connected the existing cable to some kind of an adapter thing and then that to the headunit.

Whats a harness?

im just going to go have a look now and ill see what i can do //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

thanks

Something like this:

i just had a quick look, and im presuming a harness is the cables and the white block, so:

at the back of the radio there is a connector, where i plugged in a bunch of cables that were in the box with the radio, this then splits into 2, one has 5 cables (one red and one yellow) that i connected to a cable that ws already there, and the 2 bunch of cables i did the same but didnt take much notice of them.

I have know idea how i can pull them out of the "block" thing, i gave a pull but they dont wwant to give.

hope this gives somebody some extra info that could eventually help me

thanks

The red and yellow being connected to the same wire is your problem. Do you have access to a multi meter to check for voltage? The wire you have them both connected to is probably a switched power wire (only on when your key is on). That is the wire that turns your radio on. The yellow wire should go to a constant 12V source, it is what provides power to your deck to store settings and time.

right ok, so i just need to find the constant source wire, my dad says hes got one but couldnt find it earlier, ill jus wait, but will this wire im looking for be there or not? and do i just pull it out?

It should be there, but I don't know exactly what's gone on behind your dash, so it may no longer be there(although I'm sure there's a constant source somewhere nearby that is usable in the ignition harness. Worse comes to worse, run the yellow wire all the way to the positive terminal on your battery.

You should have just been able to match the colors on the two harnesses and plugged it in without issue.
