Hello all. "Seeing if something will work" question here. I drive an '06 Miata with a Kenwood DPX791BH head unit. Ripping around the hills with the top down is incredibly noisy and you have to yell to be heard so I rejiggered my motorcycle comm system to work in the car with some gaming headphones (only one ear). I can crank the music up in the car so that we can hear it over the wind noise, but it doesn't sound very good and it's blow-your-clothes-off loud when you come to a stop (which could be fun, but not in this situation...). The bike comm system has an input for music, and I've been running an mp3 player in there but what I'd really like to do is pump the car radio (Sirius mostly) into the bike comm system's Input jack (standard 1/8" jack). While I'm pretty handy with most things electrical, audio systems are not in my wheelhouse.
On the back of the head unit is the standard multi-pin plug that is used to drive the speakers in the car. Next to it is a set of RCA jacks that are labeled for Front, Rear and Sub. I tried putting an RCA to 1/8" adapter in the Front jacks and plugged some headphones into them but no joy (that would have been WAY to easy). Maybe those are deactivated when the main plug is used or they need to go to an amp or who knows...I know it's not me.
Can I just splice into the wires that go from the multi-pin plug to the front speakers with a jack? Will that mess something up? Will that be a signal the bike comm Input will even recognize? I looked for a setting on the radio that would power the RCA plugs but couldn't find anything.
Any help in driving the radio speaker signal into the bike comm system Input would be very much appreciated.
