Have you ever screwed up install?

I recently burnt up a head unit by trying to tighten a power wire to amp and managed to send a power surge up the speaker wires. Cost over $100.00 to rebuild various burnt chips and processors in a good alpine head unit. How many of you have made costly mistakes through impatience or carelessness? Would you like to share so we can get an idea of common issues or even uncommon issues. P.S. I live in Louisiana where everything is screwed up so I am not surprised!!

I fried some RCA outputs on my old headunit by hooking them up when the amp was on

I've dont something similar. I have a carputer with BMW IBUS for steering wheel controls. I guess the first time i plugged it in, i had the power and signal wire switched and i was sending power down the signal wire every time i tried changing the track....after about 5 button presses smoke started pouring out from under my seat (where the computer is) and i looked down and saw an orange glow under my seat. I don't think i ever moved faster in my life than i did right then.......lol.

I popped a fuse once because I accidentaly sqitched the GND and PWR on my Viper. Suprisingly, only the inline burnt up, not the onboards.

Also, I did a rush/no experience job in my Tahoe, and now I am reaping the hastiness 10 fold. The full interior is stripped now and I am waiting on money to neaten up my install and finish it off.

Well ive blown one fuse because of careless handling of power wire under my hood, and in one of my installs (my first) my fuse block wasnt 100% tight on the fuse, and it arced a lot and eventually melted my fuse block together, so when i blew the fuse again cuz of high current draw, i had to replace the block. Oh well, it was like 10 bux
