Im in the process of piecing together a 3 way active system, and I'm somewhat set on the legatia L4. How do you think the L4 would perform in a sealed kick pod, if sealed would work how big do you think the pod would need to be? If sealed is no good I've read you can just "port" the pod into the floor/carpet and get good results?

I have chosen the L4 because it seems to get good reviews, and HAT seems to make some good products. Also I have a shop that is a HAT dealer nearby and they have always been good to me so I would like to buy something from them, and I know they'll cut me a bit of a deal:cool:

If I'm choosing the wrong speaker for this application any advise is welcome! Anyone running a 3 way front setup, what speaker are you using for your midrange, what location?

I'm doing a 3 way front

Silver flute 8s -kick
PHD FB4.1/ FB tweets a pillars

I used to love kick panels, still do. Going a different route now with midrange in a pillar.
I fell in love with kick panels, but found out after a while legs really messes with imaging. But, don't let me discourage you, kick panels can sound great.
Why kicks though? Are your midbass in the doors?
Also, venting into carpet isn't a good idea. It won't vent correctly. I'd say vent outside the cabin if possible. If not, they to locate the port as far off axis as possible? @keep_hope_alive;

What range were you planning on running on these anyways?
Kicks are very fun to have, and can sound awesome.

Yeah I want to put the mid bass in the doors, and my tweeter is currently located in the said panel.

Im not even sure what range they are going to play. Something like 350hz up to wherever the tweeter wants to take over haha. Can you recommend a good place to start, what frequency range worked for you with the mid?

Also how did you end up mounting the pod?

Midbass is usually 60-80hz - 200-400hz. Midrange as high they play cleanly, from 3k-8k usually, typically 3-5k, and tweets there on up. 24/db slope I'd recommend.

These are my old set. I'm working on new ones now.

But this is how they were mounted.

And this is the finished pod. Don't have pics of the finished pod mounted.

Also are your doors sealed and deadened? That'll really help your midbass

Finished product on the pod looks pretty clean, Im aiming for something similar. Yeah doors are sealed and deadened, though they could use some more deadening for sure!

For the angle of the mids I've read that aiming them at the dome light on the roof works well. Any opinions on that? My dome light is located on the roof near the front windshield. Thinking about it now that would probably be aimed up on too steep of a angle?

How about any opinions on the legatia L4 in a sealed pod? I don't think cutting a hole in the floor board of my car is a option. Is there any way to cut a hole in the back of the pod for a vent and still have it sound good?

i sat in a car that aimed the kick mids between the dome light and rear view mirror and it did two seats without processing.
I guess that could be a good starting point for me then, thx!

Considering no one wants to comment on if a sealed pod is a good idea or not, I'm starting to think sealed is a bad idea?

What do you mean, rattles and vibrations?
no, port resonance. each tube will support a specific frequency that may or may not cause response variations. you can stuff some fiberglass batt or other acoustic fill in the port to eliminate some of that and turn it into an aperiodic membrane instead of a port.
