Has anyone ever installed a head unit in a Lexus?

I went up to CC today and said that the installation will be a little more because they have to re-run wires from the front two and back two speakers. Their logic behind the need for this wasn't really clear to me. Does anyone know why I would have to rerun speaker wires throughout my car for this? Thanks again

i would check the speakers before you do anything. . guys at CC know nothing really.
Oh yeah? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif...

Quiz off?

If you want to use your HU to power the speakers, you will need to run new wiring to each speaker... therefore bypassing the factory amp(s) completely, and you'll end up powering the speakers with your HU.

Also, you mean you can't install a fukking HU? Yet you make/design boxes? Also, why the fuk are you keeping factory speakers? Factory speakers + aftermarket sub + amp = ghey.

I build very simple, pre planned, boxes. I have installed a few of my friends head units in their GMC's and Ford's, but finding parts to install a head unit in a lexus isn't quite that easy. I think I will run all new wires from my door speakers and run RCAs to my sub. I dont want to change my stock speakers because they have a verry odd shape (4.5" i believe) and there would be a lot of mods involved to install aftermarket compenets. I need to keep the car as stock as possiable, and as easy to change back to stock possible. Thanks for all of the replies so far, you guys have been a lot of help and saving me a few hundred dollars.

you either run new wire to all your speakers or buy the right harness... i think metras part number is 70-8812
Bought the harness, doesn't work. Theres a another harness but I am just going to rerun wires. I made a new thread with different questions so this can be closed. Thanks for all of the replies!

Is your factory amp dead? You can usually catch all the wiring for the amp in the passenger kick panel, up high.

the factory amp is fine, there just isnt' a harness to intergrate it. I will just run wires because I do not want to buy another amp for my compenets since they are stock and i dont plan on updating them soon. Thanks

I think what the above poster is referring to is the catching the speaker wires at the factory amp, eliminating the need to run new wires all througout the car. You'll still be using the factory wiring, its just that you'll run a shorter run just from the head unit to where the speakers plug into the factory amp.

Yah yah, thats what I was thinking about doing anyway. I will start working on it probably Tuesday and see what goes from there. What will I do since the inputs on the head unit are RCA's, not wire terminals Is there some kind of adapter or something? Thanks
