guy lied at store about size of sealed enclosure

i bought an alpine SWR-1042D and the guy offered me a great deal on an sealed Q Logic enclosure. While I am VERY new to all this, I had never before seen a box with an "external port plug," which can be used to convert the box from sealed to ported enclosure.

here is the model number:

QLH-1.0010SE.

the problem is that i didnt do any research on the box before i bought it. normally, i would never buy something without checking for reviews online or examining the specs, but he offered me a $180 sub, and a $90 box for 220, and offered not to charge me for installing and wiring the sub into the box.

alpine recommends a sealed box volume of .5- .8 cubic feet.

He told me it was .65, while in reality, it is 1.0.

the reason why i went with a 10", and only a single sub, is because as a big metalhead, i want crispness, precison, and essentially, quality over quantity.

two questions:

1. how will this affect the sound if its only .2 above what is recommended; and

2. should i bring it back and have him put it into a smaller box?

i am a little shaded out by the fact that this box is no longer made, which makes me think he was just trying to unload it to the first person he could.

IN FACT, HE TOLD ME THAT THE SIZE OF THE BOX MADE NO DIFF IN THE SOUND, which although I knew not to be true, didnt bother me because I have heard great things about Q Logic, and I was under the assumption based on his statements that the box was well within the recommended size range.

what to do, what to do...any suggestions?

i never knew car audio shops charged to mount a sub in a box and wire it from the vc to the terminal?

your reason for the 10" is not very knowledgable

.2 cu ft is not going to make much of any difference

if your satisfied with it keep it, next time build your own box

**post 2k**

well yes box size makes a big differnence but I think you'll be fine with the 1.0cu ft box... not to mention the driver will displace a little bit of that space bringing you closer to .9 rather than 1.0.... if you're really worried about it you could mix up some fiberglass, spread it all around inside the box with some fiberglass matting making it slightly smaller and helping the Qform get a little stiffer...

oh yeah btw... don't go back to the shop and beat the man senseless, it will get you nowhere in life

bro it was a joke, i take the bar exam in 3 months. however, im pissed off bc i got lied to.

im also pissed off because after i announced that i am (in caps) VERY new to car audio, you got some shots in at me bc i didnt know as much as you.

i had no idea they would charge for wiring a sub with an enclosure, the same way I had no idea that when installing a cold-air intake, it would make a huge diff in the sound of my engine (until i did it, ya fu**ing smartass). how bout you tell me you dont know sh*t about the federal rules of evidence, and then, when u ask for help, i make fun of u because u dont know that 5 specific ways of impeaching a witness and destroying their credibility (the same as i'm doing to yours, at least in terms of karma).

besides being a 2-time champion heavyweight bodybuilder (who, by the way, hasnt gotten in a fight since high school in '98), i am also in the top 10% of my class at fordham law, in NYC.

i find it hilarious that the guy with a couple thousand posts under his belt on these forums, which means you prob dont even have time to ever listen to your system, is telling me i wont get anywhere in life in reaction to an comment made in jest about commiting felony assault over a sub enclosure.

thanks for the advice, dick.

that makes me feel a lot better, because my cousin from upstate NY (who does car audio and video installation for a living) is going to be in NYC until tuesday, but the only day he has time to do my installation for me is today at 9 am. I was worried that by getting the enclosure i did, he wouldnt be able to hook me up with a free install.

i appreciate your advice and patience with me. u should have heard me about a month ago, when ohms, rms wattage, and all that good sh*t was a foreign language to me. i got a long way to go, but im getting there.

i would say pwn'd, BUT... you are completely unaware of the meaning of this message, it was not intended for you, it was directed to MikeOfTulsa, thus the /mikeoftulsa at the end

btw i did not make any 'shots' at you being new to car audio, i believe everyone has to start somewhere, if you taken my comment as an insult, that is your problem. As for you taking the bar in 3 months, congrats, maybe you should learn that their are 2 sides to every story, and perhaps learn that their may be more than just one meaning to even the most simplistic interpretations

I'm done, have a nice day!

again, i apologize.
