i bought an alpine SWR-1042D and the guy offered me a great deal on an sealed Q Logic enclosure. While I am VERY new to all this, I had never before seen a box with an "external port plug," which can be used to convert the box from sealed to ported enclosure.
here is the model number:
QLH-1.0010SE.
the problem is that i didnt do any research on the box before i bought it. normally, i would never buy something without checking for reviews online or examining the specs, but he offered me a $180 sub, and a $90 box for 220, and offered not to charge me for installing and wiring the sub into the box.
alpine recommends a sealed box volume of .5- .8 cubic feet.
He told me it was .65, while in reality, it is 1.0.
the reason why i went with a 10", and only a single sub, is because as a big metalhead, i want crispness, precison, and essentially, quality over quantity.
two questions:
1. how will this affect the sound if its only .2 above what is recommended; and
2. should i bring it back and have him put it into a smaller box?
i am a little shaded out by the fact that this box is no longer made, which makes me think he was just trying to unload it to the first person he could.
IN FACT, HE TOLD ME THAT THE SIZE OF THE BOX MADE NO DIFF IN THE SOUND, which although I knew not to be true, didnt bother me because I have heard great things about Q Logic, and I was under the assumption based on his statements that the box was well within the recommended size range.
what to do, what to do...any suggestions?
