Guage... Too Thick?

Quick question guys, I'm about to place an order some knu wiring which will include all the speaker wiring for the new build as well. I plan on running 10Guage speaker wire from my 500/1v2 to my 13w6v2, I also want to run 12Guage from my 300/4v2 to my set of C2-650 2Way Components. Are these too thick of wire to be running to these speakers or does it matter.

Another question I have is the type of wiring, prior to finding this forum I've been a die hard JL wire fan but it comes with a price tag. I was looking at a 4Guage amp wiring kit from JL and its over $80! Would the wiring kit from knu which is only like $26 be the same or better? Discuss, thanks!

12 gauge wire all around will be fine, no need to run 10 gauge from the 500/1. The $26 4ga kit is CCA not OFC. No, it isn't "as good or better", but it would work. I would recommend one of their OFC 4 ga kits.

Go with an OFC kit for sure. A reasonable single amp kit should run maybe $50-60. I bought a RF a while back and I think it was $70 for the 4 gauge kit OFC. JL is pricey. I would get the knu kit if you are wanting to save some money.

Thanks! I going with knu wiring for sure. I just can't see what that big of price difference would make, probably just buying the JL name at that point. So now I'll have all JL equipment with knu wiring, we'll see how it turns out!

Exactly. Just like apple //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Knu makes great stuff, you won't be disappointed.

always remember a couple of things when dealing with wire. CCA (copper Clad Aluminum) and OFC (oxygen free Copper) are way different. CCA wire dosn't hold the same specs that OFC dose. Copper is a great conductor. Aluminum is a lesser of the two. CCA, a mix of sometimes more metals will not hold as much current and will produce alot more heat on the insulation, in stressed conditions. Not to say CCA is a bad decision, but u need to know the facts about all wire you purchase. Reading an american standard wire quage chart will help figure out OFC copper but CCA is a little trickey and u need to get info from the manufacturing company to know if their perticualr cable will meet your current demands!

Ga (guage size) is another factor. Wire that is to small will gather more resistance which equals heat. Nothing to my knowlage electronic wise likes heat! to reduce resistance in cable a bigger wire is always in favor. You might change amps that need more current, or add more accessories which can add to the demand.

Wire can't really be "too thick" unless you can't fit it where you need it to go.
This is very true. Devices requiring current only take what they need or can get. under guaging wire is a potential hazord which could lead to regular fuse changing small carpet fire, or even worse the destruction of a loved product. I am a big fan of overwiring for future use, knowing what I have put in will last a long time.
