You grounded it to where you ground the battery, not TO the battery.

i should have made myself more clear(though i thought it kind of was), i moved to 4 channel to the location of where the battery is mounted, and then grounded the amp to the battery. i did not run a line from the amp outside the car to the grounding point of the battery. since it is an optima with top & side post, i will use the side post to ground the 4 channel on this next attempt instead of leaving it on the top post, which is used for grounding the sub amp and battery to frame.

i just have to find my allen wrenchs :/
